What tools? I know he has some size that nobody at Alabama currently has, I know he has speed but so does Blake Sims... I know he has a strong arm, but I've yet to see much accuracy...
He's been working on his accuracy...you pointed out his tools for me bro. THOSE ARE HIS TOOLS.

think he could start right away.
Just because he wins the starting job over Sims/Bateman doesn't mean he's going to get the job done.

No it doesn't but all he has to be is serviceable and we'll win the majority of our games.

I have a feeling this thread is about to go south really fast!

He has the arm strength to stretch the field and the legs to extend plays and make plays happen when everything around him breaks down. With our running backs and wide receivers, all we need him to be is serviceable.

I was at the game. Sims had a rough day no sugar coating it. Bateman showed potential he had flashes of good play but he still forces the ball where he should not sometimes. He isn't ready yet.
I would say the job is still wide open and if Coker comes on with a grasp of the offense he would have as good a shot as anyone. You might even see more than one QB early in the year.
Now as to the joyous Barners on here proclaiming themselves SEC West Champs again. It was hard to tell about them as they decided to pit their offense against the scrubs. What I did notice yesterday at the Alabama game was some very good defensive play and it looked to me like the secondary played pretty well. And it looked that way on both teams.
Those were not second rate RB's they were up against nor receivers. It was best on best and two's vs two's. The defense and especially the front looked very good and should be deep.
Over on offense Yeldon had a nice day,he looked noticably bigger to me ,I felt bad for Drake he ran HARD gave great effort and looked motivated to earn a spot. He would have had the best day amongst the backs but had a bad fumble that cost his team points.
Oline did not get the best of it yesterday, but there were reasons for it I think. The playbook is drastically cut down for a game like this and by this time in the spring the defense knows a lot of times what is coming. There are some BIG boys over there I know that.
Yeah,we need a QB. Auburn needs a defense. Neither of us have one yet.

quote:Auburn's first team defense gave up roughly 80 yards and 3 points to the second team offense...which is likely just as good as a lot of team's first team offenses in the SEC. That was also without Carl Lawson on the field.

Aubie's D rained brimstone down...on the scrubs. We saw best on best at Bryant Denny. What was Gus hiding?

Many teams play 1's vs 2's. The 1's usually go up against each other all spring. It gives the 2's a chance to get experience against starters and become a more valuable asset.

Don't really understand the automatic assumption by many that Coker is gonna step in and be a great QB for Bama.
He may, I guess.
But, then again, he may not, right?

Let's talk about how you think Alabama can't get Miami recruits because the people there hate Saban.

If that was your best O, duck and cover. There is no sugar coating it. Your O is a ish show, and your OC could possibly be the most overrated coach in the history of sports. Your OL is just like it was last year. I heard all last season how dominant your front seven was. Again, when it came crunch time we saw how overrated they were. Auburn's O is better than it was last season. Auburn can put up 30 on bama. There is no way bama could put up 30 on any SEC D, the way they looked yesterday.

If Sims wasn't so afraid to use his legs and wasn't so concerned with proving himself as a "pocket passer," he could use his athleticism to add another wrinkle to the offense.
When you have a mobile QB, it's like every pass play is a play-action pass.

quote:Again, Auburn's second team offense is likely better than a lot of SEC team's first team... Like Florida, Arkansas, LSU, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Vandy. And our first team defense only allowed 3 points and roughly 80 yards to them...with starters missing.

I would take last year's offensive line. He was solid when not compared to the 2012 version. Not to mention McCarron wasn't sacked for 8 consecutive games at one point.
The defense still led the SEC in scoring and tolal defense in 2013.

He doesn't have to step in and be great.
