Until Miles can capture the elusive second national title, IMO you've got to put Saban in a class/tier all by himself for now. I would also add that Spurrier, long-term, is trending down from where he was thought of at the end of his Florida tenure.
Agreed, except that Miles consistently puts together competitive, quality teams. I think 2 years ago, Saban would have been all on his own. I think he's losing some steam.

OMG he's a miracle worker!

Answer me this: Could Miles have done at South Carolina what Spurrier has done at South Carolina?
How many national championships has Spurrier won at USC? How many Conference championships? What has Spurrier done at USC that Holtz didn't, make an SECCG? That's it?
Spurrier's just riding Holtz's coattails at USC.
Les Miles took a perennial loser in OKSt and made them winners too. So yeah, I think he could've built on Holtz's accomplishments just as well as Spurrier has done.

First of all, to any fan (especially a GATOR fan), that thinks that Spurrier underachieved at UF, you are either taking what he said at face value (mistake), and/or you weren't watching football closely in the 1990's, and you have no concept of Florida's history.
Until the 1980's, UF was essentially the same as South Carolina is today. A school in a talent right region that had accomplished nothing.
When Spurrier got there in the 1990's, UF had just started scratching the surface of being good. Before sanctions destroyed them. But from those ashes he won the SEC in 1990, although it didn't count because of sanctions (UF went 6-1 in the SEC that year) and then won it again in 1991 when he went 7-0. From 1993 - 1996, UF went 43-6-1, 30-2 in the conference and won 4 straight SEC titles and a national title. Never again has the conference been so dominated, and it probably never will.
Spurrier ended his time at UF 87-12 in the SEC, and won 6 SEC titles, had a good shot at 2 more, and a national title, while playing in 2.
That being said:
Tier 1:
Spurrier 219-79-2, (128-43) 6 SEC titles, 1 national title, 1 ACC title
Saban 168-57-1, (71-22) 4 SEC titles, 3.5 national titles
Tier 2:
Miles - 123-45, (52-20), 1 national title, 2 SEC titles
Richt - 126-45, (72-32), 2 SEC titles
Pinkel - 175-100-3, (9-8), 1 MAC title (toledo)
Tier 3:
Bielema - 71-33, (0-8) - 3 big 10 titles
Malzahn - 21-5, (7-1) - 1 SEC title
Jones - 55-34, (2-6) - 2 Big East titles, 2 MAC titles
Tier 4:
Freeze - 25-13, (6-10) - 1 Sun Belt title, 1 Mid South Conf Title (+20-5 form DII)
Sumlin - 55-23, (10-6)
Mullen - 36-28, (16-24)
Too Early to Tell:
Mason 0-0, (0-0)
Stoops 2-10 (0-8)
Out of work soon:
Will Muschamp 22-16, (13-11)

I'm rating them based on success in the SEC. If you are talking about the current state of the program/coaching upside, of course the rankings would look different.

this is laughable
i keep seeing FatFUKBert in the same tier as GM
Malzahn has won at every level he has been at and took a 0-SEC Win team to National contention and winning the gauntlet that is the SECw and the SEC
Berts only accomplishments was winning the B10... GTFO! Heart-attack Urban Meyer, who was chased out of the SEC has owned the B10 since arriving by a huge margin...
