Coach Gundy (aka I am a Man) told his ex QB Lunt he could not transfer to any Big 12 team (reasonable) SEC team ( why??) or Pac 12 team ( again why?). Does this mean that the SEC and Pac 12 are conferences that OSU is talking to about realignment?
This is why Alabama got into the championship and OSU didn't.

Coaches are going to kill him with this in recruiting.

no, they should have to go through the JUCO medium like they do now. these kids don't have to sign there.
Disagree. Kid should be able to transfer wherever he wants. Coaches can go anywhere with no penalty, why not a quarterback?

I would sue the athletic department. can't tell a kid he can't transfer to certain places outside their own conference.

quote:I played college athletics and this will not be upheld. All the "do not transfers" have to be approved by the Ncaa. When I transferred only in conference teams were forbidden. This is what will happen in this case. Very dumb move by Gundy because now this is public and it wont be upheld anyway

SHAME on Lunt. He signed a 4 yr scholarship. He should be made to honor it.

I'm guessing you've missed the last couple of yrs on here talking about how University's should offer 4 yr scholarships.

quote:Oh, I know. I was directing that to the poster who said they should be forced to go JUCO. Why should the school be able to cut you after a year, but the athlete have to sit out a year if he decides to leave?

Couldn't he still transfer to any college of his choice without an athletic scholarship, and then join the team as a walk-on?
You'd have to think that they'd be able to get him enough academic scholarships or grants, to cover his tuition for a year.

John Calapari and Pete Carroll can F up a program and go get a their "dream" job and make a shite load of money. But a student athlete cannot change his mind. NCAA Hypocrisy !!!

There is some wrong in it, but then again there is some sound reasons behind it also.
Take a beloved coach, Bryant, or Paterno for example. Say they decide to change scenery, and take half of the Tide or Nittany Lion team with them wherever they go. If a kid is free to transfer wherever and whenever they like, it could really screw up the team and college left behind. What about the scholarships of the kids at the new school?
Bielema moved from Wisconsin to Arkansas. What if he and his staff brought 25 of Wisconsin's top players with him? Wisconsin would be left with a giant hole to fill, and 25 kids at Arkansas wouldn't have a scholarship suddenly. It couldn't work, for this and many other reasons.

Ok. Make a stipulation that players can't transfer to the school their previous head coach left for for at least 1 or 2 years. Something along those lines.
Not that hard, and it only limits one additional school.

You could, but it still wouldn't address the problem. Nobody knows what all the implications would be.
Can you imagine Saban putting out a casting call of sorts for running backs, d backs, or linebackers? Fine if you're a Bama fan, but how would the rest of the fans in the country feel if they lost their best players because Saban wanted them? At present, he could cherry-pick pretty much the entire country for players, no need for recruiting.
How about that highly rated recruit that decides that since certain teams actually drug test, or don't provide enough hookers and cocaine, or actually expects him to go to class, he will just transfer to one of the other 40 schools who offered him? How does a coach climb his arse when he isn't doing right? It's Pandora's box.
I'm certainly no expert, but even I can see some crazy shite going on if something like that happened.

No just means Gundy's a fricking bitch for limiting the young mans options.
Posted on 5/22/13 at 11:55 pm to Tigah32
Gumby did this just to let everybody know that he's a man!
Going to kill him in recruiting, especially QB's.

Hearing a lot about what a bitch Gundy is being here, using Bielema's handling of Brandon Mitchell as proof you don't have to be an arse in the situation. Gundy cutting his own throat is fine with me, but somebody should be able to step in and help the kid when the coach is being a dick. Somebody else should take over once the kid says he is leaving.

Like the man should not be such a lil bitch. Let the kid play ball at the best institution he can.
Gundy is like that little kid who doesn't like the fact his parents makes him donate toys he doesn't play with anymore and throws a fricking temper tantrum.
or I guess someone with a twitter could ask him the question
Mike Gundy?@CoachGundy
