I like 8. SEC, ACC, B1G, PAC 12, Big 12 and The highest ranked between the MWC, AAC, MAC, and CUSA champs. Then the top two BCS ranked at large teams.
Then seed them according to BCS ranking.
That leaves no need for a selection committee, and keeps the regular season still worth something. If ...
