He's right though. The offense UNC runs gassed Clowney. Quick passes and runs. Took him out of the game for the most part. He still caused a bunch of disruption.

This

He was more gassed than he should have been though. Clowney has been slacking like hell during fall practice. If Spurrier doesnt run his arse off and get his arse in shape he is going to be a big disappointment this year with all the hype surrounding him.

And before someone calls me a hater, I'm a Clowney fan. I think he is one of the most electrifying defensive players in football this year.

He was a total non factor tonight. The one highlight ESPN could find showed him forcing the QB to roll left to complete a 7 yd pass. Dominating!!!

To say he was a non factor indicates to me you didn't watch the game. He pressured the qb multiple times and split several double teams to get into the backfield. Not concerned that hes performance doesn't pop off of the stat sheet. If he had gone out and gotten 3 sacks people would have complained that he didn't force a fumble because of all the hype ESPN has built up.

That said he should have played more and he did look tired out there.

I know Clowney is a good player and I'm not gonna sit here and say he's not; however, don't you think the media has just tried their best to create a heisman type candidate to go against manziel? There haven't been as many electrifying players the last couple years and they're using clowney to help with that. If he doesn't make that hit against Michigan we're not even talking about the guy. He was.a non factor against LSU and several other games I watched last year Nd again last night. I found it funny they used and LSU clip during pregame to pump him up because he did nothing that night. They're are a lot of talented ends in the SEC and I actually thought nkemdiche looked better last night at least.

Clowney should be conditioned enough to give good effort on every play, and clearly he's not.

Every time I saw Clowney last night, he was standing around doing nothing. If the play was to the opposite side of the field he just stood there watching from a distance. Looks like all the hype has gone to his head.

Case in point:

quote:

"Hats off to my defense,'' Clowney said.

'His' defense. He's turning into a prima donna.

Saying something like this makes me think that you are just ignorant of how football works. (probably only what you could see from the marching bands seats) I will give you a quick breakdown.

Football is 11 vs 11. When you force the other team to commit 2-3 guys a play to stop you, the game becomes 8-9 vs 11. Clowney did just that all night.
Was he tired? He sure looked it.

Why? Let's examine shall we? The first quarter he spent going 110% on every play chasing RB's sideline to sideline and running screen plays down from behind. That would gas out a lot of people, even a trombone player like yourself.
Trying to live up to the God status that the media has placed on him seems to have made him wear himself early in a hot and muggy game. He still managed to disrupt the offense all night he just didn't eat unc players souls like he was advertised to do.
I will say he has handled all the media pressure much better than that other guy they keep discussing in the news not named Hernandez.

You are being a complete homer if you think Clowney looked good last night. Hope he pulls it together, but you have to admit he looked gassed.

You act like he did everything he could to live up to the hype.

Dude had zero sacks due to lack of effort.

This. He took two steps and quit on most plays and only really tried on (some) pass plays.

Point me to where I said he looked good last night? I said he was disruptive.

He wasn't disruptive. It isn't just me that is saying that dude. He looked pedestrian, which is crazy considering his raw ability. Quit attacking me and try and look at this objectively.

Simply being disruptive might be ok against UNC, but you guys play Georgia next week. If he couldn't get to Renner I don't see him getting to Murray any easier.

He did in the first quarter until he completely gassed himself... Did you even watch the game?

After that he started looking tired, effort dropped, and he was gassed until halftime. Second half he did a better job of disrupting timing of offense etc. But to say he did nothing at all because he had no eye popping stats is ignorant. He forced the whole team to change their offense and scheme against him.

He was double/triple-teamed last year, too. And he looked great last year, not gassed.

So you're saying he tried to live up to the hype in the first quarter by going ham every play. Yet he still had no sacks.
