1. Nick Saban

2. Gus Malzahn

3. Kevin Sumlin

4. Jim McElwain

5. Dan Mullen

6. Butch Jones

7. Bret Bielema

8. Kirby Smart

9. Will Muschamp

10. Mark Stoops

11. Derek Mason

12. Ed Orgeron

13. Barry Odom

14. Hugh Freeze

Again, I don't expect for you to agree with me on every ranking -- Hugh Freeze is the hardest to slot here since you have to balance out good on field success with the fact that he's probably going to get fired over NCAA issues and that Ole Miss is going to get hammered -- but if your coach got fired and you could only hire another coach from inside the conference, other than Nick Saban who would you take and be really excited about hiring?

Amazingly, Gus Malzahn is the only coach in the SEC right now other than Nick Saban who has ever even won the conference title. (Saban, Malzahn and Jim McElwain are the only three coaches to have even had teams play in the SEC title game).

It's a hard group to rank after Saban, but Kevin Sumlin shouldn't be third

Two things you can take from that list:

A) The SEC has one great coach.

B) The SEC has a ton of meh (at best) coaches.

Lol @ Sumlin.

Orgeron beat his arse in his own house on Thanksgiving night with a backup QB & RB.

Again, Lol @ Sumlin.

Ironically the quality of basketball is improving while the quality of football is decreasing.

The bottom line is that all 13 other coaches have had only mediocre/poor seasons with the exception of two coaches who each had one lone successful season:

Sumlin took Texas A&M to a Top 5 finish in 2012 on a team that produced a Heisman Trophy winner.

Malzahn won the SEC Title and played for a National Championship before finishing #2 in the country in 2013.

Both of these coaches have been mediocre since. But until another coach can produce just one successful season, you've got to think Malzahn and Sumlin will be #2 and #3 by default.

Sumlin and Mullen have a pretty similar resume. Both did it off the backs of a star QB. Mullen has a few sub .500 years, Sumlin has yet to get one of those, but 2017 might just be the year.

Man that list is shite from 2-14. Remember when the SEC used to have a ton of elite coaches? Until Saban ran them all off.

Im not saying Malzahn is a great coach, but McElwain is the only other coach I would take over him. I would be dissatisfied with anyone other than those 2 and Saban. It's hard to believe the HC standard is so low in the SEC right now.

ETA: I'm not sure McElwain over Malzahn would even be a sure deal. Malzahn has won the SEC and went to a NC. McElwain has benefitted from a weak East and hasnt really put up a major contest for the SEC title.

Nah, but we will give him clicks as we pass around this link on social media.

I will give Clay credit, he more than anyone figured out us Aggies were an untapped well of "engagement" as websites call it. All we want is someone to say nice things about us/our program/our coaches which really doesn't happen often in a state dominated by the Longhorns.

He first started riding our dick during realignment and he hit an untapped well. Ever since he has had article after article talking about how great we are or how smart the SEC was to add us, plus plenty of articles going on about how the Longhorns screwed up with the LHN.
