Amazingly, Gus Malzahn is the only coach in the SEC right now other than Nick Saban who has ever even won the conference title

Not really surprising. That's a very mediocre list of coaches aside from one great coach.

Mason should be higher. Definitely above Smart and Muschamp.

O is about where he deserves to start the year. He'll be moving up with the quickness this season though.

Argument could be made for Mullen at 2.

Butch Jones way too high.

Something like this.

1. Nick Saban
2. Dan Mullen
3. Gus Malzahn
4. Jim McElwain
5. Bret Bielema
6. Kevin Sumlin
7. Derek Mason
8. Will Muschamp
9. Kirby Smart
10. Mark Stoops
11. Ed Orgeron
12. Hugh Freeze
13. Butch Jones
14. Barry Odom

SEC football coaches are garbage IMO.

Probably will be this way until Nick retires or dies.

Agreed. No 7 straight NC amymore for this league. Basketball quality of coaches has gone up while football, the mainstay has dropped way off imo

I was confused by malzahn at 2 as well and then I kept reading- damn we've got an unimpressive collection of coaches in the conference right now. I've never seen them listed out like this.

That's what is funny about the narrative a few years ago that said the SEC was winning with superior coaching. Nah, its just Saban and different colors of shite.

Both of these coaches have been mediocre since. But until another coach can produce just one successful season, you've got to think Malzahn and Sumlin will be #2 and #3 by default.

I agree with Gus at 2 but I think we have to be careful to add some more context to each school. The levels of difficulty to win at each school is so different. I think Sumlin does deserves somewhere in the top 5 though. I know Mullen has an unimpressive record against top 25 but he has done a solid job at State for the most part. Wouldn't have much objection to him at 3.

Once again, I think this just shows how mediocre the list is right now.

Ehh, I think Urban Meyer, Les Miles, Bobby Petrino, Steve Spurrier, Mark Richt along with Nick Saban was a pretty strong bunch of ball coaches.
