I'd rather have Howland and Mack over Smart. Not as sure about Cronin.

It's opinion. I like the guy. I think his x's and o's are up there in the league, and he's showing he's a respectable recruiter. I'm trying not to base my judgement on stats alone like most of you are.

Howland won the pac 12 last year and played at a faster pace than Alford did this year.

Howland's teams shot 3s at Northern Arizona, played Big 10 ball at Pitt, and played P&R conventional pro style ball at UCLA. He adapts to his talent.

the SEC isn't exactly a who's who of coaching right now... after BD and Cal, it's all open for interpretation.

Like I said you can make an argument for Howland. 7 years ago, I'd no doubt put him top 3. But my point is that the guy was fired for underachieving at UCLA. I can't fathom how a decent coach could put the shite shows together he did the last few years there. UCLA recruits for itself so it wasn't lack of talent.

He was fired because he wasn't kissing booster arse. He won the Pac 12 last year.

The SI expose also played a part.

Howland got fired because UCLA thinks they're going to find the next John Wooden without having the next Sam Gilbert.

I'd have to say undisciplined players on and off the court has more to do with his firing than kissing booster arse. But hey keep thinking you're a basketball mecca.

None of that was his fault apparently.

I think I remember some MSU fans trying to say it wasn't Stans fault we had undisciplined players when he "left".

Oh. Were you one of the State guys intent on firing the best coach in your school's history? Carry on then, I'll disregard your opinion from here on out.

Howland plays an even more boring style than Cuonzo. I thought Vol fans wanted an uptempo coach?

Babe McCarthy, Bob Boyd, and Richard Williams> Rick Stansbury.

Being a good recruiter does not equal being a good basketball coach. No sweet 16 appearances in 14 years. Hadn't made the NCAA basketball tournament since 2009 when we had to win the whole SEC tournament just to get in. Took arguably his most talented team to a first round loss in the NIT. RENARDO SIDNEY. The fight in Hawaii. Players telling him to STFU, kicking off players that did no wrong to open up scholarships for RENARDO SIDNEY. I'll keep my disciplined and hustling team at the moment over all that bullshite.

Says the person who is part of a fanbase that signed a petition to get rid of a Sweet 16 coach.

Oh and Stans wasn't their best coach in school history. Never made it past the second round in the NCAA tournament.

The petition, which I didn't sign, was valid. Cuonzo was very underwhelming up until his, let's be honest, lucky tournament run. You can suggest otherwise, but that would be exceptionally ignorant of you.

I'm happy that Cuonzo was able to find a new home while his name was still hot, he likely would not have made it past next season.

Did he or did he not make a Sweet 16 run? How was he underwhelming? Did you honestly expect Tennessee to beat Florida and Kentucky this year? Because if you did, that's exceptionally ignorant of you.

Jerry Green and Steve Donahue made a Sweet 16 once upon a time too.

Cuonzo is a bad coach, not a surprise that many SEC fans wanted to see him stick around.

Let's be honest... no one gives a shite about the regular season anymore. It only matters what you do come March. Cuonzo shined while all his detractors looked like imbeciles. Now the joke is on you and your whole fan base looks like a bunch of retards clamoring for sticks in the dark.

Let's be honest, you most likely won't hire Shaka Smart, Archie Miller, Gregg Marshall, etc. because of how shitty you treated a very good basketball coach. No coach in his right mind will take your job right now. You most likely get Ben Howland or some other coach past his prime that may look great on the outside, but once you start dissecting it all, won't be so bright.
