I've got it narrowed down to some choices --
W Hotel downtown
Marriott Marquis downtown
Intercontinental Buckhead

Prefer downtown. I've been told all the Hilton properties in Atlanta are terrible. What's my best option? I prefer to walk after the game or really quick cab ride so the former are my preference

First off that is idiotic whoever told you that.

The hotels you listed are all absolutely awesome though. There is a Embassy suites and a hilton garden inn near centennial park which has a bunch of good places to go around that. W in midtown or the loews is very nice as well. The Westin is the cylindrical building you see in the skyline of Atlanta. Could be a fun experience there too.

ETA: I should say that those hilton properties around CNN center are no worse than other Hilton properties around. I personally would rather stay at a W.

College Park has some really nice hotels... and if you enter the doors wearing all white with a pillowcase over your head, you'll receive a discount.

I hear they have a fantastic, newly renovated church there too

Marriott Marquis is where I stay for events at the GA Dome. Cab to the game and walk back that night.

I am going to Ole Miss/Boise Thursday, Braves game Friday, Clemson/UGA Saturday and VOLS/Utah State on Sunday night.

we're most of the way through the first page of this thread so I feel the need to suggest a helpful title to redirect people to this thread.

How about: "Ole Miss fans unfamiliar with Atlanta and request advice from other members of the SEC who have been there before"

Granted, it is a little long...

Are there any open rooms left at this point? It's usually the same weekend as dragoncon, and the hotels around the dome are usually booked up the second the rooms come available.

I'd go with W downtown. It's new and near Centennial Park (where all the action will be). I work next to the Intercontinental and it's nice too. Lot of fans will congregate in Buckhead as it has great shopping (for wives and gfs) and dining. There is a MARTA station there for an easy ride to the Dome.

The last time I stayed at the W in downtown Atlanta, I woke up to find a palmetto bug crawling across my toothbrush.

There's also a W in Buckhead if that Hotel is your preference. No one's even mentioned Midtown. Tons of Hotels, including a new Loews.
