It's a good question. The fast pace offenses will keep the defenses from looking as good as they actually are. Both defenses have more talent then teams like Arkansas and MSU but likely will not be as good on the stat sheet. Who ever has the most experience should do better. I don't know if Chavis has the temper that Muschamp does but , I think long term he could be better then Muschamp. A DC with a big ego and temper on a team with a fast pace offense could be bad.

LSU's #1 defensive ranking last year was fool's gold. They got manhandled by mediocre teams in Auburn, State, Arky, and Notre Dame. Chavis was a top coordinator for a long time but he has been mailing it in for a couple of years. He's still good at the x & o end of things, especially against spread offenses, but his laziness as position coach and recruiter was evident on the field the last two years. Maybe a change of scenery will reenergize Chavis but I'm excited to see LSU rush the passer like in the days of old.

Muschamp was Chavis' equal even when Chavis gave a frick.

What job could Muschamp get after two years at Auburn?

Not sure. Hard to predict what will be open in 2 years, but with Sexton for an agent you can bet his name will be mentioned for jobs somewhere at the end of this year, next year, the year after...

Clemson could come open. Arkansas could come open. Georgia could come open. Miami could come open. All could happen in the next 2-3 years.

Why would he take a cut in pay to coach at a smaller school?

Why did Gus? (I know why Gus did, but my point is that it happens. I doubt Muschamp will, but I wouldn't be so quick to talk in absolutes about coaching - it's too crazy)

He is an Auburn Alum

Undergrad at UGA and was a GA at AU. I assume he completed his Masters while a GA, but I'm sure he, like the rest of us, more closely identify with where he spent his undergrad/playing years.

he has a long time connection with Auburn

His wife is key here. She loves it in AU and helped tip the scales to AU when Will had options this off-season. That said, she's an Ole Miss girl, Will is a UGA guy, so it isn't like AU is the only place they have a connection.

I can not think of a situation that would get him to leave.

He's likely there at least 2 years, but I'm sure there are many situations that would cause him to consider leaving - just like virtually every coach in the world.

Chavis will be better. Muschamp will have some growing pains on how to coach a defense with an offense that actually plays fast. Only at Texas did he not have a ball control offense.

He didn't have a ball control offense at Florida. Unless you call repeated 3 and outs controlling the ball.

He'll be successful at Auburn.

lol Clemson is never going to hire a coach that failed at Florida, especially one that couldn't develop an offense. Clemson fans are used to the team being able to score some.

Dabo will probably be at Clemson at least another 10 years because he can recruit.
