He's also one of the most biased color commentators around.
I don't think he's a Bama fan but nearly every game he has some team he's pulling for and it shows.

I'm sure you've felt this way when he slobbed over guys like Leonard Fournette

But how is Gary going to mentally recover from last weeks Bama game?
Must've been really sweating it...

It's unreal that people genuinely believe stuff like that. My friends used to say the same stuff about him and Florida when Tebow was there.
Newsflash, it feels like they are "biased" towards whichever team is generally the best.

tv guys just want good ratings. They want Bama to fall behind because it generates interest, which = ratings. It is only natural for Danielson to secretly pull against Bama. So no he is definately not a Bama fan.

exactly, Danielson may gush over some teams or players at times, but it's because those teams/players are really good. I highly doubt a guy from Detroit who played at Purdue has any inherent bias towards any SEC team. What's missed in everyone's unwarranted hate towards him is the fact that he simply know the game of football. If people paid attention to his analysis instead of who he's talking about, they would see that and appreciate what he brings to a broadcast

He's better than anyone on television at identifying mismatches that coaches are going to exploit. His whole thing about how Ole Miss really isn't a "hurry up no huddle" team anymore was dead on, and his stats were really interesting last week. Sure he drones on about things sometime (the whole penalty thing last week), but he's a really good color dude.

I'd argue that Collinsworth is the best, but since he doesn't do college football.......

Agree - I meant CFB. Collinsworth is fantastic.

is there anyone on TV you do like? I'm guessing no. There are fans on the site that, regardless of who it is, if a name is brought up of a journalist, analyst, commentator, or really anyone in the media, that person's opinion is worthless because they're a hack... because "herp derp." Basically if they've ever said anything negative about your team or anything positive about the team you're playing, he's just biased.

It's like people don't even recognize when, in the 1st half, he'll tell the audience which plays to watch for in the 2nd half.
He's uncanny and I don't think he can dumb it down any more than he already does.
Just watch the pretty uniforms if you don't get Gary Danielson

Seriously, name me a better color guy than Danielson. And I like Herbstreit a lot, but he's not as good a color guy as Danielson is.
Joel Klatt?
Jessee Palmer?
Greg McElroy?
Andre Ware?
Mack Brown?
Brock Huard?
Ed Cunningham?
Rod Gilmore?
Mike Bellotti?
Anthony Becht?
The only other one I'd add in is Todd Blackledge.

it really is. he'll see teams line up and know where the ball is going before the play starts or he'll see something during a play that most fans wouldn't have otherwise or see an opportunity a team missed. People who hate him get far too wrapped up in the "filler talk" that is going to come with 4 hour broadcasts with, at times, several minutes between plays

I also have noticed that coaches clearly trust him, feel comfortable talking to him about things. He ALWAYS has 1-2 things are clearly confidential (or would have been pre-game) that he mentions were discussed in their coaches meetings. And they are always really interesting.

He used to, not sure if he still does, have a youtube video released on CBS Sports' channel where he recaps the weeks' games and more in particular the game he called. I always enjoyed watching those.

I like Herbstreit and blackledge. I'd rather listen to a lot of the play by play guys than Gary.
Tessitore, Nessler, etc.

Tessitore and Nessler are play by play though
I like Herbie and Blackledge, but I don't think that analyze the actual play on the field as quickly or as well as Gary does. Gary is full of himself, and it shows, but I just don't have much issue with it. A lot of people do though.
