“You can close your eyes and switch the uniforms with these guys and right now Florida thinks they’re going to win. And that’s really the whole thing about this football game. There is not a matchup, there’s not a play, there’s not a physicality part of the game – the biggest hurdle in this game is Florida knows somehow they’re going to win and Tennessee believes somehow how are we going to blow it this year? And it’s not just the players – last year’s meltdown in the last quarter of this game was by the coaching staff too. They took their foot off the gas, they played soft defense, they almost played a prevent defense on the last play of the game … it’s been almost system-wide – the coaches, the players and the fans have a mental block in this game.”

Yeah, and the same could be said about any team that has lost several in a row to a rival.

Especially when it's that many, and when your team blew a game they had in hand the year before. There is absolutely a mental obstacle here. Tennessee may overcome it, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there.

He is correct. I have zero faith in this team winning a close game against Florida until they prove otherwise.

I said this the other night. After a while, repeated losses to a rival gets in your head. The program then mentally has to turn the corner. Mizzou lost to Nebraska for 25 years straight. 25 freaking YEARS without a win against them. It took a real mental shift to get there. I really hope Tennessee doesn't go that long. But 11 in a row does something to the program mentality that they'll have to get past. It turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Can't you have eliminated the words "CBS Analyst" in order to include the words "against Florida" in the thread title? I mean does anybody on tRant really not know who Gary Danielson is.

I think it's going to take a change in the coaching staff to change the mentality.

But isn't it obvious that he's talking about their mental hurdle against Florida? I mean, who else has won a bunch of games in a row against Tennessee that could present a mental hurdle?

And the two years before 2015 were both won by back up QBs who entered the game trailing

PhatPhil has a mental hurdle where he doesn't realize people don't care about the articles he posts.

Gary Danielson is probably the most knowledgeable color commentator there is. The only people who think otherwise are those (LSU fans who wear tin foil hats) who are convinced he's an Alabama fan. He knows his shite, plain and simple
