Everything you have seen posted in this thread so far is crap. Actually, Starkville has a long history of LARGE sports betting and other gambling and got nicknamed StarkVegas. I know this first hand.

The rest of you outsiders don't know shite, but thanks for your participation.

The term began regionally as a casual insult to describe a town perceived as a backwater. The joke was that Starkville, home of cowbell-clanging fans, was not exactly Las Vegas. As an administrator at Kentucky and Baylor, Stricklin remembered, he would hear people sigh and say something to the effect of, “Our team’s got to go to Stark Vegas this week.”

Ohhhhhhhh K buddy. Think that. All these other Podunk towns got the Vegas tag ironically but no, Starkville is different.

No kidding. Pretty sure Starkville just copied the other villes.

I'd also imagine that Fayetteville's use of Fayettenam is just a copy of Fayetteville, NC (home of Fort Bragg), but the Arky poster's version on the prior page is still more credible than this Starkvegas one.

Starkville is the equivalent of Livingston, Alabama. The only major difference is bigger population in Starkville and Mississippi State plays in the SEC. Anyone that has gone to both towns will agree.

What do people do in say..Auburn, or Oxford that's absent in Starkville? Eventually, you have to start asking these questions. I'm all ears..

Contrary to the message board posters' general opinion, Starkville is not that bad.

It isn't Athens, but the Cotton District is a pretty cool bar scene.

They don't have the numbers that a Tuscaloosa or a Knoxville has, but there are a few really good restaurants in town. Restaurant Tyler and the Veranda are both places that you can really enjoy.

It doesn't have the beauty of Oxford or Fayetteville, but the small town feel is kind of cool, and the campus is pretty.

It also doesn't have the crime and STD rate of Baton Rouge.
