Yes, I know I can google it but I want to hear from real fans of the SEC on the reasoning behind this stupid name.

It's the complete opposite of Vegas...I think it has to do with an ironic thing

This happens with every city name that ends with "ville"

E.g. East Carolina fans call Greenville, "G-Vegas"

Any town with the suffix "ville" will have it replaced by "vegas" for shits and giggles.

Huntsvegas
Ashevegas
Winchestertonfieldvegas

Don't think there's really a story behind it. It's just not uncommon to replace "ville" with something more catchy.

See, Fayettenam

Knoxvegas, Starkvegas, there are some other stupid ones. Does Fayetteville use Fayettenam? I know the actual Fayettenam does, I think I've heard Ark's version referred to such

People shite on Starkville all the time, and sure, it may not have AS MUCH to do as other SEC towns, but if you can't have fun there, you're a stick in the mud or functionally retarded.

I thought it was coined by Skip Bertman talking about going there for a baseball series. Obviously, he meant it sarcastically because it is the opposite of Las Vegas.

This. There's a small college town in Missouri called "Kirksville", which is in north central Missouri (a.k.a the middle of nowhere) and has a population around 15,000. The students refer to it as "K-Vegas" for what I imagine is the same reason kids call Starkville "Starkvegas".

Everything you have seen posted in this thread so far is crap. Actually, Starkville has a long history of LARGE sports betting and other gambling and got nicknamed StarkVegas. I know this first hand.

The rest of you outsiders don't know shite, but thanks for your participation.

Yep. Students would get a deferment from the draft during Vietnam, hence, they were going off to Fayettenam.
