Mike Dubose won the SEC and beat Spurrier at UF twice in the same season, so yes.

When you are supported by the machine that was Bama post-Bear almost any coach can be awesome.

We got to see Stallings up close outside of that world and he compiled a record of 27–45–1 at Texas A&M. Sumlin (who no one here respects as a coach) is 36-16 so far in comparison.

Stallings was a fraud and on top of that he got Bama in trouble:

quote:

According to the N.C.A.A., a few days after Langham signed with the agent and applied for the N.F.L. draft, the player told Gene Stallings, the football coach, about the draft, but said no agent was involved. The N.C.A.A. said Stallings should have pursued the matter more diligently.

But he jumped in Bear's arms so we have to love him right?

LOL wut? Stallings is the only coach that won anything of national significance between Bryant and Saban.

Yea, huge fraud

Stallings at Alabama
7 seasons
70-16-1 (44-9-1 SEC)
1 National Title
1 SEC Title
4 SECW Titles
3 Top 5 Finishes
5 Top 15 Finishes
5 10 win seasons (when they only played 11 games)

Oh yes, please educate us on the Langham NCAA situation, fan of team that wasn't even in our league then. We don't really know much about it. Anyone who knows that situation knows that it was as much about the Alabama brass being stubborn asses as it was anything else. Stallings wasn't buying players. Stallings and Co. made a poor decision believe Langham and not fully investigating and being transparent about a situation in which Langham signed a fvckin cocktail napkin after the Sugar Bowl.

I don't think anyone at Alabama really cares if A&M fans like him or not? There were 20 frickin years between his A&M tenure and his Alabama tenure.

And on top of all those things, he is one of the best men to ever grace this planet.

Miles is not a mediocre coach.

Nor is Chizik. But for the exact opposite reason as Miles. Chizik is a horrible coach.

LSU did with Miles, Auburn did with Chiz, almost did with Gus too. Why couldn't Bama with someone like Shula? just take a great coach to get the job done there I guess? makes me think they'll take a run at Bert once Saban goes back to the NFL.

I will say that if Gene Chizik can win a NC I'm not sure who can't.

He had one of the 5 best CFB players of the last 50 years in an offense that is almost impossible to stop with a guy like that and a very good O-line - which they also had.

It was the perfect storm and Chizik rode the wave.

It's a similiar thing with Erik Spoelstra's pair of NBA titles.

If Spoelstra can win not one but 2 NBA titles I'm not sure who can't. Well at least if you have both Wade and James on your team.

Spoelstra and Chizik's championships both beg the question of if a fan in the stands can somehow win a championship. At least if they have Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Nick Fairley or Cam Newton on their team.

Although to Chizik's credit he actually got Newton and Fairley on Auburn. It's not like Spoelstra had anything to do with getting Wade and James on the Heat.

THIS X 10!! Also, how did the CHEEZ do after Cam left? Cheez was a fraud and was exposed pretty quickly..

Gene Chizik was more exposed when Gus Malzahn left him. He went from winning 8/14/8 games, to 3 and being the worst team in the SEC.

Based on his one year in which he went 11-3 and won the SEC East with a roster held together by glue and duct tape?

Yea, what a disaster!

+1. He sat at the next table one night across from us at dinner a year or so ago. I wanted so bad to go over and meet him. The Mrs kept saying go on because she knows how much I respect him. Never did. Figured the guy would like to go out without folks bothering him.

'Course,some other guys did anyway.

What does that have to do with coaching?

A lot of people get called great men. Coach Stallings is truly one of them. And just about anybody who ever dealt with him, no matter creed, color or affiliation, says the same thing.

He had the perfect storm last year. A disaster of an SEC East, laughable OOC schedule and an easy West schedule. It's all downhill now, starting this year.

Gimme Cam Newton at QB, and I would have a shot at winning one.
