this is a warm-up game

The weirdest, most bizarre outcomes are often reserved for these odd Thursday nighters.
that's more applicable for Thursday night games in the middle of the season because you're playing on short rest and disrupting the regular routine. For the first game of the season, this doesn't really come into play in my opinion

one of the better Group of 5 teams
eh, maybe. those teams still regularly get rolled by P5 teams, much less top 15 P5 teams

A scare? Maybe. Will they win? Probably not

Why does anyone think App. State will give Tennessee a game? This one will be a colossal blowout falsely raising the hopes of Tennessee fans.

We're really not gonna learn much, one way or the other.
Unless we lose, then we learn that Butch Jones is done, it's over.

Florida won the East last year. They beat East Carolina 31-24 and Fla Atl 20-14 in OT.
UGA tied for second in the East last year. They beat Georgia Southern 23-17 in OT.
Ole Miss was second in the West last year. They lost to Memphis 37-24.
Arky tied for third in the West last year. They lost to Toledo 16-12.
Auburn wasn't great last year, but they play in the SEC and FCS Jax State took them to OT (and should have won that game).
That was all last year and involved some of the top teams in the SEC. It happens every year.

I fail to see what any of these games from last year have to do with this game

I mean if you want me to say anything is possible ok, it's just not likely

Well, the guy I was replying to said that Group of 5 teams "regularly get rolled" by teams in the SEC. And I was retorting with the fact that every year, several Group of 5 teams give some of the better teams in the SEC fits. So, there is proof of that, just from last year. Since no one has played a game yet, except Cal and Hawaii, those were the most recent data points I could muster.
So, while Tennessee could easily roll tonight, I could just as easily see a scenario in which everybody in Neyland is nervous because late in the third quarter, Tenn is leading 21-17.

And he's right, the majority of these games are blowouts
