It's changing...kids I grew up with playing football from really young ages now have boys...They're playing flag football or travel baseball.

Great idea. My BIL an all SEC player and former college coach doesn’t believe should be played below 9th grade, and did not allow his son to play until he was a hs freshman.
Not Millennials. We are old. He played for Bryant

The sharp decline of youth football, of any kind, is noticeable. Kids either aren’t playing anything or it’s soccer & travel ball.

Anybody actually been to peewee games. They don’t hit hard enough to hurt each other… maybe the 11-12 year-olds. They basically, fall on top of each other with the younger kids. The good organizations teach how to tackle for middle school. Please keep that soft mentality out of the south.

Came to say this. We used to laugh at ourselves when we thought we hit someone hard and saw the film of what it really was.

Unless there’s just some giant or people being held back. I’m pretty positive we had weight limits in peewee and it was by age. My brother was big and was able to play @ 4 y/o. But it was typically 5.

I think non-contact will cause injuries later when you’re having to learn against 13-14 year olds vs 5-6 year olds. Especially with these giant arse teenagers that were seeing more and more of.

I’m usually not for governments banning things other than criminal activity, but as as someone who started football at about 7 years old and can remember getting my “bell rung” - read CONCUSSION- multiple times before I was 10 and plenty more times in HS, I’m okay with this.

Their plan must be to have no boys in the state in 5 years.

You don't need tackle football before hs, imo. As long as you practice on fundamentals and other aspects, you're good. Playing soccer is good for footwork per Harbaugh.

Flag until high school makes sense
I'm conflicted on this. I started playing in the 5th grade all through college. I learned a lot playing early. It taught me teamwork, discipline and to toughen up and not be a cry baby. I've tried to steer my son towards basketball in HS instead of football because of all the injuries I suffered in college and concern for his long term health. Was that fair to him? He is a much better football player than basketball player?

Has there been studies on young kids health? Like someone else said, I'm not sure I want the state to come up with their own rules on such a controversial subject, especially if they have no facts.

Nah, I love my boys playing football. Goes hand in hand with their wrestling. The flag football kids remind me of the awkward homeschoolers

I’ve seen some flag leagues be more dangerous than tackle football.

Pee wee football the hits are as soft as a marshmallow.

Flag with no pads can have some incidents

Country’s getting soft. Not surprised to see the Millennials here cheerleading this.

I’m 58, played full contact football starting at 7 years old and I’m fine with this move. Elementary age kids’ brains and bodies aren’t ready for it.

I think California has it right on this one. (I can’t believe I just typed that).

The point is, football is too dangerous for young kids because of unknown potential risks down the road.

But pumping them with puberty blockers, which do not have known long term risks is ok.

They are going after football on one hand and pushing puberty blockers on the other hand.

That isn’t a consistent position regarding protecting kids from potential long term affects.

This isn’t new. I know of several counties here in the south that continue to raise the age limit on tackle football.

Have y’all ever been to a youth football game lately. It’s a push fest. I’ve seen more kids get hurt riding a bike than at these youth football games.

Agree with the above
