They are 4-3 with this remaining schedule

Auburn
Kentucky
A&M
Southern Miss
Ole Miss

Notes for your consideration:

Auburn's offense is putrid and 14 might win this.
Kentucky hasn't won in Starkville in 15 years.
State has won 4 of 6 against A&M
Southern Miss is 1-6 and is having a real bad season
The Egg Bowl is chaos.

I ain't touching that line. I didn't think they would beat Arkansas. But can't they go bowling with 5 wins too?

Their APR is in play if they go 5-7. Depends on how some other teams do and how many spots are open.

I consider Southern Miss a win, so that's 5 - which of the other four are winnable?

Its probably in order of when they are played.

Auburn - State is the better team. Auburn is better coached.
Kentucky. - There have been plenty of great Kentucky teams loose in Starkville.
A&M - Talent probably wins this one for Iggy this year
Ole Miss - Rebels should be 10+ favorites, but game is in Starkville and Egg Bowl chaos, man. You just never know.

The Auburn vs Miss State game will determine which team is bowl eligible. It'll be the Bham Bowl so it might be good for Auburn to drop that game and avoid their third Bham Bowl bid.

6-6 with a win over Southern and either Kentucky or Auburn. Don't see y'all beating us or A&M this year

The Auburn game I would say State has about a 40% chance of winning. They're a mess, yall are a mess, who knows? I think Auburn is a better team though, especially if you're still playing your back-up.

Kentucky is obviously better than State, but they like to run the ball. State seems better at defending the run than the pass, especially when the QB isn't a threat to run. You catch them in a good spot, between TN and Bama, plus it's at home, so this may actually be your best chance at #6.

A&M is way more talented, but you guys seem to own them and they are in the middle of their mid to late season swoon, so who knows. On paper, this isn't a game you should expect to win. But, it's A&M. 30% shot.

USM - Auto win.

Ole Miss. Sorry, but you guys are just outclassed this year. It happens. I know it's a rivalry game and all, but this feels like one of those years where that just doesn't matter. Loss.

So, can you pull one from Auburn, Kentucky, or A&M. You won't be favored in any of them, but going 1-2 doesn't seem like some huge feat that you can't overcome.

So, I say yes, you go exactly 6-6. Good news for the rest of the conference, that means you probably keep your "coach".

Buy. Southern plus at least one from that group seems likely.

I have been too depressed to look, but will the SEC actually put a team in Birmingham this year? Let's examine.

Georgia, Alabama, and Ole Miss or LSU will get New Year's 6 games.
Ole Miss or LSU to the Citrus Bowl.

Then you have the Bowl 6-pack

Florida, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas A&M are locked here. There is one more bid before you drop down a tier.

Here are the contenders

Mississippi State (4-3)
Auburn (3-4)
South Carolina (2-5)

Arkansas and Vanderbilt both have six losses with likely no path to get to 6-6. We can revisit them if they start winning.

South Carolina can actually only afford to lose one more - A&M, Kentucky and Clemson are still on the schedule.

Auburn can lose two more - they are likely going to end up 6-6 even if they lose to State.

So in this crazy season, the Mississippi State-Auburn game could be for the Las Vegas Bowl. Loser is headed to Birmingham. If both LSU and Ole Miss get NY6 games, there will be no one for Birmingham.

I like it. They will best Southern Miss and either Auburn or Ole Miss (team gives up once out of SEC race. See last year).

Surely to goodness we can win in Starkville this year. We are clearly the better team.

Buy.

Then Arnett receives an extension and every team is happy.

I think State has a 70% chance of winning one of either Auburn, Kentucky, or aTm and I think they’ll get USM.

Not sure which of those 3, but this past weekend’s defensive performance has given me hope.

To me, Auburn looks like a must-win there. Kentucky's pretty good, A&M's pretty good if underperforming its talent, and Ole Miss is pretty good.

Southern Miss is terrible.

Nail down a win against Freeze & Co. and a bowl game is in sight. Stealing one on the road against Arkansas was huge.
