Sadly, theatrics works at UT, and AU.

Well, he had to congratulate someone. His players certainly didn't deserve a pat on the back.

Uh, no. Gus, Bert and Kev are way ahead in that department.

I guess the one thing that really puts me off is, Satterfield was addressing his team, encouraging them, and BJ just interrupts. He doesn't ask to say something , he just Barges in.
And Mussberger , his comments on class act. Dude has gone round the bend. Still like hearing his voice call games, but what's coming out of his mouth is just senile most the time.

I hope you can calm your jimmies soon. Butch and the VOLS have rustled them something fierce.

Nah. Im starting to realize he's just not a very good coach and imo he looked like an idiot.

When he speaks he just repeats these little slogans over and over. Watching him in the sec fall camp series he just seemed to me to be very nerve wrecking. Gotta drive players nutz!

Classless...really only added to an unprepared UT performance ...who were very lucky to score in OT...and knows it.

Jones pulls a lucky horseshoe out of his arse, and suddenly he thinks he's Bear fricking Bryant going into the USC locker room to congratulate Sam Cunningham.
Yea stuff like that only matters if you are a legend with such respect and awe on a national level that your willingness to address them would be a moment they would remember and cherish forever. People like Bear Bryant, Bobby Bowden, John Wooden, Coach K, etc.
The fact that Butch did that explains everything about why his team played the way they did. Just like his players, Butch thinks too much of himself with no accomplishments to back it up.

I'm not mad. I'm glad he's not UGAs coach. What's wrong with me having an opinion. I started the thread , waited 3 pages and then made one comment after I watched the video linc provided.
It's actually laughable. His whole thing. Just such an ongoing cliche'.

App State's coach should have asked to do the same thing, and congratulated Tennessee players for playing with heart and coming back from a deficit at home in front of a sold out crowd to win the game in OT.
Yep. I mean this is the same UT team and coach that has lost to multiple bad teams and had multiple bad records over the last decade. Appalachian State has beaten a top 5 team more recently than Tennessee. UT is a Goliath in name only and its opponent did not need a pat on the back for coming close.

I believe General Neyland jumped on the Bus and addressed the LSU Football Team after a game in Knoxville back in the 50's. Players from that Era used to speak reverently of that experience and the sentiments he expressed for them.
I'm not saying General Neyland = Butch Jones. Not sure anyone would try to make that comparison. But there's a precedent and not unheard of. I've actually heard of it happening in Hoops on several occasions.

Was he telling them thanks for giving that game to him? If that is the case it is ok because they probably saved his life

Did Neyland interrupt the LSU coach while he was talking to his players? Doubtful.
Butch Jones went full Bitch Jones IMO.

Sounds like a pretty good win after all. Why is tRant giving UT so much shite?

He has a huge ego. What he did was a slap in the face to the App State coach. It is the App State coaches place to address his team on the field after the game. To praise their effort. To instruct them on finishing, effort, mistakes, composure, and to use the experience as a building block and a learning experience.
Jones somehow thought he could do it better. That their boys needed to hear a few words from the "great Butch Jones" to complete their healing. It was a dick move that he is to conceited to even realize it was a dick move. While he might have had the intention of respecting the players he completely disrespected their coach in the process. He was basically implying that the moment was to big for the App State coach and they needed to hear from a "big time" coach like himself.
