You think I didn't know that every customer pays for SEC network?
But if people aren't watching then the value as a whole drops.

I'm just glad the Aggies joined so now all those Texas fans are forced to have SEC network.
Me too. Heck I don't mind paying for theirs as it got us here.
And it won't be different in five years. All this stuff is locked in for a decade plus with contracts.
Now 20 years out you might be right. Maybe by then cord cutting has killed major cable as a revenue stream for ESPN and the SEC Network goes subscription only. At that time Tennessee's old brand and ratings matter to help people pay X per month directly rather than a hidden charge on their cable bill.
Until then the only way Tennessee can help is to crank out cable subscribers, or suck so hard that your games are all at a Teir 3 level.
I like Tennessee so I hope option 2 doesn't happen.

Live sports is something cable needs to stop cord cutting. Live sports are what advertisers need to avoid DVRs. The SEC if anything is undervalued today.
You are correct that if we all suck for a decade then when the contracts are up it would hurt. But it would take a while and that would give us a chance to come back.
All of this us just a buffer built using mob tactics. We have the drug the old system needs, and we are going to milk it all to the bone.

I'd say the Lady Vols games on the network do very well. Not anywhere near football, but good in Women's basketball terms

As they should. You are right I forgot women's bball, that is a major Tennessee tier 3 contribution.

I'll be interested to see how it affects baseball popularity. I know I would've watched our baseball games in the past, but they were rarely on tv.

I hope it lifts all non football sports. I would also love to see some original programing worth watching for more casual fans. A show on the bear, one on the general, etc. Would be a great way to build appreciation for SEC history.
That is the fun part- it all just started.

Tennessee has been in a slump for 10 years. This question makes no sense. Both teams have won it all, where as the lil' USC has won nothing. Maybe you should become a Klempson fan.

I would love to see one on Neyland. Since he retired in 1952, I feel like not many fans really know very much about him. Truly one of the best to ever coach.

That tells me nobody reads anything on here. I put a pretty mean dig at USC in that post.

Am I correct in assuming that the schools would have a big role in producing these SEC Storied type documentaries(such as one on Neyland) because of the multimillion dollar multimedia facilities being built?
Have you seen the one at Tennessee that just opened? It is unreal

Me too. That kind of stuff builds solid lifelong fans that pass it down. I want SEC football to thrive longterm, and luckily our partner Mickey Mouse is the pro at doing that.

Yup. It will help students get great real world experience too. But Disney is at the switch, so production value is always high and at never public access levels. That protects the brand.
Everything is good with that network. We are glad to have an equal share of it. The way this conference is built I think it thrives no matter what business models of distribution dominate in the future.
The only way the SEC sinks is if all football does via lawsuits, lack of participants, or something like that.

Nobody is saying ANYTHING about the UF decline. UF and TN declines are WAY larger and TN has been in one forever!!!!!

You might should put a thread on WHY the old ball coach has NOT won a NC at USC?

There is some grandma in Tennessee right now that does not give a crap about your program or any college football who plays over a buck to us just because other conferences set the business model and other teams built the SEC'S streak.
This is actually funny. My grandmothers LOVED football. My great-aunt, old as she may be, still watches. This is the nature of E. TN - I can't vouch for the rest of the state but E. TN and E. KY (where my other grandmother lived) is completely football crazy.

Lol, gotta love a grandma that likes football.
