90's when Vanderbilt went undefeated and shut out all opponents.

2000 Gamecock Baseball 50-6 (25-5) SEC regular season champions. #1 overall seed in NCAAT.
South Carolina had the best regular season in modern college baseball history. In the rugged Southeastern Conference and playing a tough non-conference schedule, the Gamecocks put together an incredible 50-6 record during the regular season.
Ray Tanner’s club was good offensively and defensively. But what made the Gamecocks nearly invincible were the guys on the hill.
They called them “The Killer B’s. Bouknight, Bauer and Barber.
Cajuns/Gamecocks Game 3 Super - Sarge Frye Field

quote:lol no way. Sure that team had super flashy talent at the skill positions but it was lacking deeply in depth in other key positions.
2013 should be on the list when you look at the talent but eh.

In football, 1975. Thanks, Hogs.
In all sports, Farmer already mentioned the correct answer: 1989 baseball. frickLSU™.

Maybe you can say that is LSU's best offense to not win a NC but 2006 has a great argument for that also. 2013 defense was nowhere close to NC caliber.

Coach Bryant said that his '66 team was the best team he ever coached, so....

This year's basketball team.

Georgia had a great defense in 2003 but that offensive line couldn't block my grandmother.
My pick for UGA is 2012.

I think that 1999 team was pretty dang good. Bad offense, but insane defense.
Lost on the road to Alabama by 12 (we won the SEC) and on the road to Arkansas by 5 (they won the Cotton Bowl).
While recent memory would immediately say 2014, I tend to feel completely different. Our 2010 team was the best team we've fielded. 9 out of the 11 on defense ended up in the NFL in some capacity. The only problem was the Chris Relf was the QB instead of a certain someone... $$$
And if you look at the losses, you can see how quickly those could change with that.

"...that 1997 title game..ugh"
Just ran into a red hot Arizona team that year. I remember Arizona played South Alabama in the opening round in Birmingham that year and they were in DEEP trouble late in that game. They rallied from down like 8 points with 3 minutes left to beat South Alabama at the end. They pretty much cruised the rest of the tournament after nearly getting upset in the first round.

For those who don't know.
A&M started 26-0. They finished the regular season 58-5, won the SWC and SWC tournament. For the yer the averaged 10 runs a game. First 3 games of the regional we outscored our opponents 65-13 then went on to drop 2 to LSU. Baseball America even voted A&M #2 in the final polls even though they missed out on Omaha.

I just have a hard time believing that Georgia team was the best ever for you guys that didn't win a title. They got curb stomped in Columbia 35-7 and didn't even score until there were 2 minutes left and we had out 4th string defense playing. I don't think we threw but 2 passes the second half that game was so laughable.

for LSU its the 80s year, McKnight scared the refs to death with his shoe in the final eight .

Auburn 2004 will be a strong pick for their fans...don't know if they would've beaten USC but they were solid.
I'd trade the 2010 MNC for the 2004 one in a heartbeat. Hate it for all those guys. That season developed an irrational hate for all things chokelahoma for me.

"Our '89 baseball team. F U LSU"
Same here with the 1997 Alabama baseball team. With all due respect to the 1983 team, by far the best Alabama I can remember. Beat LSU 28-3 in a game during the regular season yet lost to LSU in the national title game. Our best all around player Roberto Vaz stepped on a baseball in warm ups at Rosenblatt and missed the entire tournament with a broken ankle.

I'd say it's a toss up between '66 and '77.
Posted on 2/29/16 at 7:19 pm to Sid E Walker
Yeah I forgot all about 77. We lost to a top 10 Nebraska while Notre Dame lost to 5-6 Ole Miss but they jumped us after the bowls.
