God, that 97 title game. Ugh.

At least your best worst teams were that good. Alabama's best best teams are.....

1. 1986-87 (28-5, lost in Sweet 16 to Providence)
2. 2001-02 (27-8, lost in 2nd round to Kent State)
3. 2004-05 (24-8, lost in 1st round to UW-M)
4. 1985-86 (24-9, lost in Sweet 16 to Kentucky)
5. 1989-90 (26-9, lost in Sweet 16 to Loyola Marymount)

However, I'm pretty sure the 1975-76 team was really the best, lost by 5 to Indiana in the Sweet 16.

Either way, slim pickins there.

Yep, that was during the Bryant down years too. Well, 69 and 70 were. 1971 was the wishbone year when they figured it all out again.

This. 1982 was also incredible but we lost that one fair and square in the Sugar Bowl.

2012 is just another incredible SEC team that will go down as overshadowed by Bama's run under Saban. Any other era and it would have a title to its name.

2002 I'm honestly not sure would have made it in, even if undefeated (same sort of situation 2004 Auburn had with two other undefeated teams and the SEC had nowhere near the clout that Miami program had built up to that point or the reputation the Big Ten was still riding). But it is still the most complete UGA team I've ever seen: dominant defense, excellent special teams, and an offense led by one of the best UGA and SEC QBs ever with a 1000 yard rusher, a completely dominant OL, and UGA's all time leading receiver. Just shite luck to go 13-1 in a season that had two undefeateds

Yep, and then kind of got screwed having to play a mediocre 9-4 FSU team in the Sugar Bowl.

Gonna go with '13 still since we were in the actual game and winning almost every second of it

Good one as well considering that FSU team was being discussed as a GOAT team going into that game.

Actually, that seems to be a common theme on the 3 AU teams that are up for consideration.

1. 1983 - Nebraska was being widely discussed at the greatest team of all time. I think they were even on a Sports Illustrated cover being called that.

2. 2004 - That USC team was being discussed as a GOAT after the bowl game.

3. 2013 - FSU was being called a potential GOAT team going into the bowl game.

Bama's in order

1977-Goes without saying, the screw job here
1966-see 1977
1971-When Nebraska was Nebraska. Johnny Rodgers ..unreal
2013-Played the worst we could play against AU
1986-How THIS team lost 3 games is still Bama's greatest mystery. Ray Perkins is the only answer I got.

BTW, my pick for the best AU team not to win is 2014. They were pretty much an unstoppable team on both sides of the ball with as much NFL talent as about any SEC team ever.

1983 AU won the national championship as far as I'm concerned anyway.

You mean 1993 Auburn. And although undefeated, FSU was a better team that year and AU would have lost to them.

Yeah, definitely not 2014 and that defense and the buttfumbles.

Hahaha - I was going to say - I mean the 2014 didn't play to their potential, but I don't know that they had THAT much talent......

2004 makes more sense

These 2 UGA teams aren't close to the 81 and 82 teams.

82 and 02 are probably the 2 biggies, in my mind anyway.

Auburn 2004 will be a strong pick for their fans...don't know if they would've beaten USC but they were solid

Would have given them a better game than Oklahoma
