Whitson is not playing this year...turned down millions as the number 9 draft pick to play at Florida. Tore it up his freshman year, had rough Soph. Year, and is out with injury as Jr. Moral: take the money and run.

Ross isn't a great hitter, but he can gun em down. Still not the best at his position, but very good catcher.

Ty ross??!! Explain please

There are 3 SEC catchers who made at least one All-American team this preseason. This is how they hit last year in SEC play...

Hitting
Ross, .287, 3 HR
Navin, .270, 1 HR
Greiner, .258, 3 HR

Putting Ross on a preseason All-SEC team is justifiable based on his hitting history in my opinion.

What's your team look like?

I think Nola and Eades will be considered two of the best SP in the league by the end of this season

I haven't had a chance to watch all teams play this year, but based off of what I have seen and what I know about certain players from previous years; here's mine:

SP: Bobby Wahl(Ole Miss)
SP: Philip Pfeifer(Vandy)
SP: Barrett Astin(Arky)
RP: Jonathan Holder(state)
RP: Tyler Webb(USCe)
C: Stuart Turner(Ole Miss)
1b: Conrad Gregor(Vandy)
2B: Jacoby Jones(LSU)
3B: L.B. Dantzler(USCe)
SS: Adam Frazier(state)
OF: Raph Rhymes(LSU)
OF: Ryan Tella(Auburn)
OF: Austin Cousino(Kentucky)
DH: Hunter Renfroe(state) *Kid can hit...I like the OF i have picked, and he was close...didn't know who to put.

I guess I need to put these players on my radar.

Ya, its only my opinion. I think all Vandy pitchers are awesome but the Pfeifer kid sticks out to me.

Some will say Turner is a homer pick but its only because you haven't see him play. His batting numbers aren't out of the world, but good at the same time.

Tella is one that I'm surprised doesn't get more praise. Great hitter and solid defense. Maybe because its Auburn.

greiner cant throw it back to the pitcher so that eliminates him.

Yea, he's new. He was at LSU-Eunice previously. Like I say man, its only my opinion. I'm not basing this off preseason all-american/sec picks...the title is best by position.

And obviously you haven't see him throw to second...

no i havent. i've seen greiner though. no way you can put this kid ahead of greiner already. lets get halfway through the sec slate and then we can talk about him taking greiners spot. but now, thats silly.

eta: that would be like putting that black guy who plays football too in RF this time last year because he started out hot.

Dantzler is playing 1B this season: the season is WAY too early, but thus far Pounder's numbers:

BA: .545 (2nd in SEC behind UK's Riddle)
RBI: 13 (tied for 2nd behind VU's Harrell)
HR: 3 (tied for SEC lead with UF's Powers)
Total Bases: 23 (tied for SEC lead with UK's Riddle and OM's Frazier)

Dantzler was named SEC Player of the Week for Wk. #2...

Too hard to say.

Most of us haven't seen other SEC schools play yet. Also, for the most part, all the stats this year that people are throwing out are against bad competition.

I'd switch Renfroe and Rhymes. Renfroe is as close to a 5 tool player that there is in college baseball. 100+ from the outfield can't DH. I'm just being picky though.

Also, Turner is a legit catcher. He's 7 of 8 throwing out base runners. Most of those came against a team that stole 130 bases last year. The one stolen base was almost indifference. He is also currently our 3 hitter and RBI leader.

This is a good list, but I'm not sure how we can get to 4 pages and have no mention of Stanek, a possible #1 overall pick? I would feel comfortable switching him for any of the three above. Nothing against these pitchers, they are all filthy.

This. I've seen the guy throw ropes from foul pole to foul pole during warm-up. Not to mention he threw out 2 runners at first last year.

Working off the preseason All-Americans from my earlier thread, I will go with the following:

C - Ty Ross (LSU)
