I'd say that to be considered part of a coaches "tree", one would need to have that coach considered as his prime mentor...a question answered only by the individual.

I think Saban says it was James and Bill Belichick.

I agree and I would think Jimbo considers Bowden more of his mentor. Of course I could be completely wrong. Saban is also a defensive minded coach. I would think an offensive guy like Jimbo would consider an offensive guy his mentor more so than a defensive coach.

What does Jimbo say? I'm pretty sure he's been asked.

Well I don't know, but I bet it ain't Les Miles.

I couldn't pass that up even though he coaches my tigers.

Jimbo may respect and admire Bowden, but his coaching and program-building philosophy is 100% Saban. I believe he even uses the word "process" when describing his program.

Bama fans who do you think is the best HC from the Saban coaching tree? Kirby Smart , Jim McElwain , Will Muschamp ect.

For obviously being a legendary, future HOF coach, Nick Saban's coaching tree is pretty lackluster, IMO. So far, if it weren't for Jimbo Fisher it would be very ugly.

Obviously Jimbo Fisher has had the most success thus far. I think Kirby has the best future potential.

Derek Dooley was an epic failure at Tennessee. Will Muschamp was an overall failure at Florida. So far I've been unimpressed with McElwain at Florida. These are some guys that got MAJOR HC jobs that with all those resources failed to come close to the success that Saban has produced at Alabama.

I think the way you determine if a guy is part of a "tree" if if their coaching philosophies and program structure match (for the most part) the coach in question. I don't know enough about Dantonio, but I don't get the sense his is. It isn't a polar opposite, but it isn't the same sort of carbon copy of Saban's.

Muschamp, Smart, Fisher and McElwain appear to run programs in very similar ways (or at least attempt it) to Saban's. Dooley might have tried, but his was clearly not even close.

Well to be fair I don't think anyone knows what Dooley tried. Including Dooley.

Jimbo is as much a part of the bowden tree as he is of the Saban tree.

His time playing and coaching for Terry where Bobby helped them and mentored off season and with coaching/film help are equaled with is tenure with Saban as well

I can assure you Jimbo is using nothing he learned from Terry Bowden on how to sustain success as a head coach.

Doesnt take him away from the Bowden tree. He is a part of Bowden and Saban, I dont think there could be any other claims for Fisher.

Just like Dantonio is from two trees as well, Tressel and Saban
