Dude, that's bullshite.

I was born in '61. The Cold War was not "hard times" for Americans. On average, American life hasn't been difficult since the end of WW2.

Late 80's was my time. Graduated high school in 85. I talk to people online about some of the shite we did back then and they think I'm lying. It used to really amaze me. Now, not so much. We were the last generation without the internet. We're damn near superheroes compared to those that came after us. Gen X will be considered the next greatest generation. We knew our parents, the boomers were fricking our future and there was nothing we could do about it. We raised our kids to not be like us because we really didn't think we were all that. Not sure that was a good idea but there ya go. It was the opposite of what our parents did. We knew that was at least the right direction. But good lord did we ever have a good time with our lives. At the end of the day, if you don't do that, then what the frick did you do?

Interesting theory. People and kids are both too soft today. It kind of makes sense, there was a push for toughness and being able to withstand things due to competition with the Communist bloc. Barney, "let's talk about our feelings:, etc. blew up in the 90s after the end of the Cold War. In the 80s we knew nuclear holocaust was a real possibility. Kids played with realistic toy guns without orange caps. Megatron turned into a Walther P-38. My water gun looked like a realistic black uzi. 90s had Super Soakers.

There was great thread on this on 0T few weeks ago, how we went from “don’t come home before dark” to helicopter parents in few short decades is beyond me. Cell phones and the internet ruined being kids. We used to argue for weeks over stupid shite like did he say I want to thank you or frick you, was it real blood gene Simmons was spitting out etc. There was no way to really know

I agree with the 70s for multiple obvious reasons. Socialism used to be a bad word. Used to have only two genders. People didn’t wake up every morning wondering how they were going to be offended. The Democrats back then were more conservative than Republicans are today. Didn’t have social media ruining our country. Not everybody got a trophy.

80s easily. Prosperity without the cultural neuroticism.

70s were great, too.

We used to swim in blue holes full of alligators. We didn’t think they would bite.

Chase black and the rare blue racers to catch and sell to pet stores

Kids today don’t even drink out of fricking hoses. They don’t sleep in the back window of the station wagon or bike across town alone ride in the back of trucks or even go trick or treating without chaperones.

Some of the best water I ever had came right out of hose

We used to walk miles, trough culverts, woods etc to TG & Y all the way across town to make our drinks as they had only self serve beverage station in city. (Mix coke with cherry drink etc) It took probably 2 hours to get there and same to get back which would get us back right before parents started to look for us. It was awesome.

They found out told us to never ever do it again, and of course we totally ignored them and went the next day. What the hell were they going to do anyway, they were at work We just made sure we didn’t bring the plastic cups home as souvenirs again. Parents were clueless back then

2000s and it’s not even close. All the best movies and pop culture. We got step brothers super bad and the hangover. The music was also lit. Video games were becoming awesome with the release of the ps3 and Xbox 360, and even the comedy was solid. GOAT decade 2000-2010

We were bulletproof back then. My doctor told me the other day to quit bitching about Akes and pains. He said most people who had been thru what I had would have been dead. He has a valid point.

The 80s were pretty cool if you had Satellite TV like we did. Going over to my Grandparents I was bored as shite, they only had 4 channels.

Playing outside was about the same in any era.

I would say 2000-2010, had the internet, could DL whatever music you wanted, download movies.

The 70s were pretty cool I imagine, best era for music, could do pretty much whatever you wanted but that was before my time.

I was born about 2 decades too late. I would love to be born in the 60's so I could experience the 60's and 70's as a kid and a teenager.

I nominate the 1970s…do I hear a second? (deafening roar)…

Well I “grew up” mid 50s-end 60s. 50s were blah. 60s were one-half 50s, one half Vietnam. In short, 60s sucked. But…then came 70s.

I returned from Vietnam end 1968… was single, in out of college in 70s between jobs. I thought I had gone to heaven. Greatest music ever, the Band, Greatdul Dead, Hendrix’s, Bohemian rhapsody, etc… pre aids and other std, post birth control.. pre fast food flab.

True, the idiot-Carter era was tough economically, gas crisis, 55 mph speed limit, and the way we dressed was laughable… but far better music, movies, art movements, sports, football, Coach Bryant, Steelers vs Raiders (when football was football) than 80s or 90s. .

Cars were still American with muscle, motorcycles were Harleys and Limys, interstates were uncrowded, CB radios, SEC had unique culture - screw those Yankees, baseball was king, no damn cell phones, Monday night football, Saturday night live…

Yep…1970s was it.,

I weep for those looking back on the 1990’s nostalgically. What a shite sandwich decade that was.
