Good hire, Bert! It didn't matter who was hired, tRant was going to melt regardless.

Well we had a top 10 defense, so yeah. Defense is our strength.

And Ellis wasn't prior to Muschamp?

Ellis elite? No. He had one great year in 2010. Other than that, his defenses are top 50ish.

I don't know one single person who has ever referred to Ellis Johnson as elite.

Auburns Head Coach......“Ellis is one of the top defensive minds in all of college football. He is very experienced and has tremendous success coaching in the Southeastern Conference,” Malzahn said in a released statement. “He is a man of integrity who will be a great ambassador for Auburn. We’re very pleased to have him join our staff and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program.”

Muschamp is elite when he coaches for elite defensive coaches like Tuberville and Saban, he flounders on his own.

Except he fielded top 20 defenses all four years at Florida.

Well there goes that argument. There aren't five better DC's in college football.

Just curious...are there any teams in America that play up-tempo on O and has a solid D against power 5 conferences?

I like Boom a lot as a DC. I just think style of play will diminish what he accomplished as a coordinator under Tubbs. That's when I think he was at his best

Baylor thought they did until they played Sparty. So did Oregon before Ohio State.

That's great, on paper.....but his defense also...

in 2014
30 points to LSU
30 points to Kentucky
42 points to Alabama
42 points to Missouri

in 2013
36 points to Missouri
34 points to Vanderbilt
37 points to Florida State
26 points to Georgia Southern

Also, SEC East teams ranked 4, 5, 9, 10, 12, & 14 in the league this year.

So, you're boasting about stats compiled against the lower half of the league offensively.

At Texas in his last season, his defense gave up 28 or more points on six occasions.

As long as he doesn't try reverses inside the 10, or go all air raid in the 4th quarter with a lead, he'll be just fine.

Clemson just had the #1 rated D while running a Gus clone O.

if y'all didn't need to score 40+ to win games you would have beaten A&M the last two years.
