Be careful with ESPN’s online “strike zone” data… it will mislead you

LSU fan accounts are going wild on twitter with the tweet below, but all it takes is one batter to show how corrupted the data is. Good lesson here in that you should always double check before running with something as fact.
See below:
Original Tweet w/ Trackman Data
If you look at this, you go “Wow! Ty Floyd didn’t throw a single true ball during that at bat!” Well….. LSU fan posts the sequence that shows how inaccurate the data is (Or only the middle zone is actually a strike):

A lot of those are still strikes and he gave a lot of those every other time but we had multiple chances to get ahead anyway but the bats wouldn’t get going

I’m sure there were some missed calls but this is more directed at people running around saying Ty Floyd threw 18 consecutive strikes that resulted in three walks based on this graphic.

I see no one saying that. I see a lot saying that most of the borderline pitches weren't called strikes. Even still, LSU just didn't get it done in the 8th and Wake did. That was the difference.

Not sure I believe those locations. According to that he threw 23 straight strikes? That doesn’t seem likely. Also they have the exact pinpoint location, but don’t even include the velocity?

The Ump FORCED an 8 pitch at bat when it should have gone 5? At most. More than likely should have gone 3

And that is without the craziness of twitter where there is a lot more evidence.
I get it, people are pissed because they felt like Floyd got squeezed and confirmation bias is taking over. This thread was more to serve as a caution against that graphic which is driving people wild.

yeah it's clear for anyone watching the game to know this wasn't true but there were some people saying that.
the ump definitely squeezed floyd though as you can see from your graphic

There were some strikes that were called balls and balls that were called strikes. I think what we have seen from the NCAA tournament is that as much shite as we have given SEC umpires, they might be the best in the NCAA.

We don’t need a fricking graphic. We saw it with our own eyes just like the 3 guys in the booth !

I'm no LSU fan but it was pretty obvious that the behind the plate umpire was favoring the Wake Forest starting pitcher giving him low and outside strikes while squeezing LSU's starter.

It starts and ends right here. LSU had ample opportunity to win this game

A home plate ump's pride is the most fragile thing in any sport.

The strikezone data is unreliable and the umpire behind the plate yesterday was also bad
I think both can be true, while also understanding that the events in the top of the 8th were the main determining factor of the game.
Great game

I got downvoted to oblivion for saying the strike zone is only the center square
