When talking about the popularity of a sport(which is what the Kentucky fan and myself are referring to) ratings is just as much of a factor as attendance.
NCAA women's basketball is more popular nation-wide than college baseball. Outside of the southeast, no one really cares that much about college baseball. The same can be said for college hockey and the northeast.
Don't get me wrong....I love college baseball but the numbers don't lie.

Yep. South carolina women's basketball averaged 1.5k more attendance than lsu.
The problem with college baseball is the season starts far too early. Difficult to gain steam up north when there's still a foot of snow on the ground for the first month or two of the season.

well, as a whole, the top attendance numbers in women's basketball look pretty similar to those of college baseball, and i'm only talking about average attendance. Much like college baseball, there are only a small number of schools that have a good support for womens basketball. it's not a regional sport, per se, but interest is relegated to a small number of total schools.

I don't care if it's 20k more capacity. They still had better average attendance.
And attendance ONLY references regional interest in that game. This is why ratings are important. Ratings gauges national interest.
And NCAA women's basketball tourney typically has much better ratings than the CWS. That directly translates into gauging national interest.
Also. Your point about alex box expanding only reflects lsu. it doesn't reflect the sport as a whole.

I don't care how much lsu fans care about their own team. The only points you can come up with are how much lsu fans love lsu baseball. Absolutely no one is denying that.
Believe it or not...there actually are other college baseball teams than lsu and there are a hell of a lot of people that don't give a shite about lsu baseball.
This isn't about lsu baseball. It's about a sport not being nearly as relevant nationally as we think it is. Rounding up every coonass and stuffing then into a stadium with bleachers and three different shades of yellow is absolutely irrelevant to the rest of the nation views the sport.

Rupp's capacity was shown as 25k+ on Wiki, over 19 home games, I calculated a 100.3% of opportunity.
It would be splitting hairs to argue over 2 numbers over 100%. And it would be flat out idiotic to argue that LSU Baseball is more popular than Kentucky basketball. On a real basis or on a relative basis.
