@JonSolomonCBS: It's amazing for any board member to help interview coaching candidates. Even more amazing given #FreeUAB climate of overreach accusations.

You guys are shooting the messenger. Respected journalist are pointing out the egregious overreach of the UA BOT, I'm just sharing their thoughts with the masses

Can you tell us more about this respected journalist? I haven't seen any yet mentioned in this thread.

Yes, because the AD and the trustee that chairs the Athletic committee openly going to meet a guy that wasn't currently employed as a coach to discuss a vacant coaching position is EXACTLY the same as flying in secret to meet with a currently employed coach to discuss a currently occupied head coaching position.

Exactly the same.

You trying to give auburnphan a run for his money or something?

Because the message he is bringing is flawed in its assumptions.

Two problems with this:
1) Respected Journalist - this is a virtual oxymoron in today's climate, but certainly when talking about an agenda driven individual like Jon Solomon.

2) Egregious overreach of the UA BOT. Perhaps you missed this part of the article
quote:

Battle flew to Dallas on Saturday along with Finis St. John, chairman of the UA Board of Trustees' athletics committee.
. BOTs at all schools - including Bama - form committees for a variety of things. It is not uncommon, nor is it against any rules or regulations, for members of said committees to attend meetings about things the committee was formed to accomplish.

Just stop.

I think the point is a BOT member being part of the search committee. I think SACS threatened AU with probation, because they were too involved with the Athletic Dept. The BOTs vote after a coach is selected. I do not have a problem with it, but it proves SACS is a joke of an organization.

SACS didn't just threaten. They actually put Auburn on probation. I'm sure JetGate didn't help at all but the part that involved athletics was in controlling the Athletic Foundation money rather than any coach selection process.

No, they specifically cited Lowder for micromanaging athletics, including inserting himself in the coaching search.
