I think the key is the proliferation of the spread/read-option offense. Nick Saban clearly doesn't understand it. He can't defend it and this year, as he's tried to implement it in his own offense, it isn't working.

500+ yards per game & 36+ points per game. 2 of 3 opponents ranked in the top 25.

And oh yea, replacing every skill position on the offense with 5 of the 6 departed skill players currently sitting on NFL rosters (3 starting).

Yeah, they're really sucking hind teat right now.

However, is it a philosophy problem or a "joes" problem. He is getting exposed on long bombs often now, whereas the only real way to stop that is to double cover guys or have safety help. He can only do that if you control the LOS with 6 guys right? That's the ultimate conundrum for all coaches.
We are missing a big ole Mount Cody or Jesse Williams in the middle that requires a double team.

it's the secondary that is causing Bama to look so awful on defense. They have the talent. The philosophy just sucks. You can literally throw up passes and complete them against Bama. Hell, it actually happened against Ole Miss. Their CB's dont attasck the ball at all. I'd be willing to bet they are near the bottom of the league in INT's over the last season and this season.

How can you attack the ball when you don't even turn your freakin head around to track the ball?
