The real impressive thing is getting those kids to sit and wait their turns. Some don't see major playing time till Jr. Sr. years...

Not sure I totally agree with this... once the recent 5 Stars recruits begin to see and compete with the former 5 stars recruits that have been in the program for 2 or 3 years with the benefit of not just strength and conditioning but also executing schemes on the field then I think they see they have work to do...

And some are starting as 17-18 yr old true-freshmen. It's wacky to see Hurts as the starting QB. Then we have Jonah Williams starting on the oline and excelling - BJ Emmons getting a lot of carries.

So Bama's 60 players that are 4 or 5 stars is a "major advantage" over LSU's roster of 56 players that are 4 or 5 stars?

Also, this is more proof Les Miles wasted more talent in Baton Rouge than most teams will ever see.

That's unreal.

How can that be when OP said it was just talent?

Made a thread about this preseason that USC would be the most talented team Bama plays.

Pre-Saban LSU coaches didn't recruit nearly as well.

I mean sure there is always some to come in and start right away, but the depth at most positions is insane.
Back when Nebraska was a power house they had the same formula, you truly just reload.

haven't recruiting services changed guys from 4 stars to 5 stars when they choose bama though?

that's what people say ... there's not much difference between a 5 and a 4 ... lsu has 50 4* to bama's 44 ... and more 3* ... this narrative of "he can't coach but he can recruit" is amusing ... lsu has a lot of talent on the squad, as do usc, osu, and others ...

Alabama is going to win because of the refs. Let's get real, people.

Please quote where I said it was just talent and lets not act like LSU is terrible. They lost to a top 10 Wisconsin and Auburn in the last second. I agree that Miles was too stubborn.

Alabama's biggest advantage is talent not some magical coaching job.

Alabama's biggest advantage is talent, but mostly because of a magical coaching job.

fify ... bama wins because saban knows how to prepare day in and day out ... there's little difference between talent on the rosters ...

Pretty incredible that LSU has been able to keep it this close despite a few rough years. Feels good man

I don't believe it happens but it could and yes I agree with you that there isn't much difference in 4 and 5 stars.

Bamas advantage is on the lines and at linebacker. I would say LSU actually holds an advantage at the skill positions.

Then why didn't Saban win titles at MSU? If his coaching ability is that much more superior than everyone else then why doesn't the NFL come knocking?

Not saying he isn't a great coach, but there are great coaches in college football that haven't won a title. Talent is the difference maker.

Every single national championship team was at least top five in talent going back to the start of BCS, probably every team in history.

The thing that really changed the game was when every team started playing on TV.

But not everybody is on in primetime in the marquee matchups. Some get the Thursday night games with Beth Mowlins doing the play-by-play!

Last year's draft had 5 five stars and 17 four stars, 9 three stars or lower in 31 picks. Considering there is only around 30 five stars every year, 300-400 four stars, and thousands of three stars I think five stars are statistically superior.

Not all four stars are rated the same, though.

talent is important, but at this level - between lsu and ut and bama and osu and usc - the talent difference is marginal ... as the previous posts state, lsu has 56 4/5* to bama's 60 ... that's marginal ... there's no difference in talent between the bamas and lsus and tennessees of the world ...

the difference is coaching ...

I could count the amount players Tennessee has right now that would start for Bama on one hand. Four and five stars are not equal by the way. Hell, four stars are not equal to their fellow four star.
