And the "program" being sound fundamentals applied consistently will yield positive outcomes...

correct. It hurt Bama, Michigan, Nebraska, OU, ND, USC, etc. Those teams were on TV every week and recruits in Louisiana were going out of state to play on TV...since the mid to late 90's that wasn't necessary to play on TV.

To be fair, he recruited them there to begin with.

Pre-Saban LSU coaches didn't recruit nearly as well.

Dinardo recruited pretty damn well and rebuilt the LA pipeline into LSU. Saban then built a lot on top and Les was even better than Saban.

At this point, LSU just recruits itself in Louisiana, which hasn't always been the case.

Dinardo getting Kevin Faulk was the catalyst. Absolute biggest recruiting win in LSU history I think. He was a nationally known guy and had offers from the big boys like UF, FSU, Notre Dame, Nebraska, etc. It gave LSU momentum in the state.

Then Saban got Clayton and Spears out of BR, and Marquise Hill out of Nola which really helped our Nola pipeline.

To add to that, I think Tyrann Mathieu made it "cool" for New Orleans kids to go to LSU again as well.

Hill started it, but Tyrann was a superstar and had that contagious swag the New Orleans kids loved. He also always repped 504 and LSU simultaneously.

And of course now we have Fournette.

yup. TV has increased the parity in college football via removing the recruiting advantage for those teams for sure.... but its still not where a lot of people would like it to be.

Something else I noticed from that, USC should be better based on talent alone.

100% all of this. Theres a frick ton of talent in LA. Getting that shite back on the purple and gold sidelines is what has made yall the super power yall were up until a few short years ago and still have the potential to be with the right hire after the season is over.

Bama had some nice players pre Saban but back then we were sweating over guys like Brodie Croyle. Now if they don't come we say fricke em but back then we were begging. Big difference in personnel.

USC is a dumpster fire. Pete Carroll left at the perfect time. His legacy at USC, even after being tarnished by sanctions, will get him a free steak at any 5 star steak house in L.A. for the rest of his life.

They hired a zero experience head coach and he followed it up by making terrible hires. Tee Martin for OC as an example.

Yeah, thats the major difference now than then. We get to pick and choose. Another big problem we had, especially under shula, was that we had some amazing recruits that Shula had no idea how to "coach" and they became diva's like DJ Hall that refused to catch a pass over the middle because he didnt want to get hurt.

The real impressive thing is getting those kids to sit and wait their turns. Some don't see major playing time till Jr. Sr. years...

This is why everyone was so high on LSU to start the year, and why LSU fans are excited now.

LSU has a ton of talent, they have been improving, and we will see how much better we are next week when
we play Alabama.

This is what amazes me sometimes. We have kids transfer out like Barnett, and I dont blame them and have no hard feelings because I know they want to further their own possible career on sundays and sticking around to help the program isnt going to pay their bills down the road, but for the most part, Saban is able to keep them on campus. It's incredible.

It also doesn't hurt having probably the best talent evaluator in the game. Saban seems to have a knack for getting 3 stars that grow into beasts
