The estimable P. King was in Georgetown Thursday. A few of his observations:

4. Lewis is not happy with Andre Smith, the second-year tackle from Alabama. He doesn’t think Alabama shot him straight with its pre-draft info (the kid’s work ethic leaves a lot to be desired) and Smith was not diligent enough in the offseason rehabbing a foot injury. The Bengals expect him to be ready for the start of the season, but I wouldn’t be surprised if: 1. The Bengals start him on the PUP list because he won’t be in good shape; or 2. He doesn’t start the season as a starter.

Andre Smith ought to be embarrassed. Apparently, he isnt.

Saban sold Bengals a bill of goods!

Normally, I'd love to take the Bungles side and pile on bammer, but with all the sketchy characters they've signed in the past, they need to STFU.

The Bengals also have less scouts than all other franchises and have proven to be more susceptible to drafting questionable character guys. They should have done their due diligence a little better, this falls on them, not Saban.

Smith is not self motivated. He needs coaches to keep him going in the right direction.

This is what happens when you loose focus and become lazy. The bengals should not be complaining because they knew his conditioning level during the combine. If you remember the famous picture of him without his shirt on. That is enough to know he was not the most in shape physical specimen in the league. He ruined his chance in my opinion when he messed with the agent while he was at alabama

uh, no everyone saw this coming. The Bengals were out of their minds to draft fat smith that high and I'd be willing to bet most bama fans knew that too.

Whatever happened to PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. Its not Saban's fault Andre Smith is a fat lard, college football players are not dumb little kids. At that point you should be a man and willing to accept the consequences for your actions. This includes dumb arse players taking money/gifts from agents.

Sounds to me more like the bengals didn't do their homework. I don't think it is any secret to even a casual fan of SEC football that Cody has battled weight the eintire time he has been at Alabama. Saban always seemed to have him ready to play so I think their coach needs to do the same thing.

Also, Saban's job is to look out for his players, not the Bengals. Just my opinion.

I always appreciated Andre because he was an excellent player, but never thought too highly of him besides his talent.

I find it strange that he and Saban were always so tight because he doesn't seem like Saban's type of guy. Coach still refers to him affectionately as "Smitty." Saban always seems to get the most out of these types of players. I can't think of a better motivator in sports.

seems like the bungles are just, well the bungles.

saban had a great relationship with belichick while he was at LSU and belichick drafted many LSU guys who worked out well for the pats. shocking a guy drafted by the bengals isnt' working out. must be sabans fault

This falls on the Bengals to me, it was well known Andre had issues with conditioning. I can understand them being a bit unhappy with Saban pumping sunshine but what do you expect he's a college coach trying to get guys into the league. Now there is a difference between a lie and just not giving all the information.

They went 6-1 in their division last year, with the only loss in the playoffs to the Ravens. They must be doin something right.

We're talking about the NFL.

It's ridiculous to expect the coach to coddle a grown arse man and have to encourage him to workout for something he makes millions of dollars to do.

Andre Smith was able to get by at Bama solely on his talent. Now that he is actually being asked to show some drive and self-respect, he has no fricking clue how to step it up.
