you think Howland is more connected and respected than Avery
I didnt say that. Howland does have connects though. Howland is also much more respected in the college game than Avery.

what makes him a better hire than Johnson?
I dont know. Maybe the fact that he's actually coached college basketball.
Howland making 3 straight final fours and winning the Pac-12 the year he got fired are just icing on the cake.

He coached a total of 440 games in 7 seasons. He won 254 of them. LMAO

He has 440 wins in 7 seasons (I'm sure that probably counts playoffs) I got the 440 from the newspaper ... that could be wrong. I Don't know. And iDGAF

Well let's see, he coached 440 games in 7 seasons...but I don't think he won them all

No one is calling Johnny Jones a great hire.

You thinking this trumps Barnes, Marshall or Howland is hilarious.

He coached 440 games. In his 5 FULL seasons he averaged 4 wins per season.

Dude is still a helluva coach and I'm dern excited to have him on board!

While thread title is patently false, Bama fans should be excited. CAJ has a lot of potential upside.

Oh yeah I didn't even think about his record with the nets. But clearly if he has seasons of 60, 67 and 51 wins in the NBA he's at least a decent coach.

Glad I could make your morning lol.... I'm a fan. Sue me lmbo this was an outstanding hire and those arguments against that idea are laced with envy so it's cool.

Avery was out of coaching by choice.. he wasn't sitting around waiting for his phone to ring he was VERY busy. He even came out publicly and took his name out of a few openings over the last couple of seasons....
And whether he did or didn't get offers, he's still a great coach. He's sitting on millions why would he just take any job? I'm sure the Nets fiasco took some love of the game away... he even improved them. It's was a controversial firing for those who remember it.

Considering Avery was first contacted the day after BB sent the email about not getting Marshall... You're wrong.

That was a joke by the way.

When will Bama fans start saying they never wanted Gregg Marshall and Johnson was their #1 all along?

I missed your BBall power rankings through the season. Could only find the week 1 rankings.

LINK
quote:

1. BAMA (2-0) sports SEC's best defense.. opponents avg 41ppg and a lofty margin of victory 19.5ppg.

2. UArk (2-0) Avg 80ppg Bobby Portis probably the best player in the League. turning opponents over at 19.5pg.

3. UF (2-0) Solid road win against an improved(?) USC. Obliterated a horrible MSU. Nothing really stands out about this team but they have a great coach.

4. UK (2-0) Yes... UK the greatest team ever made is looking really pedestrian in league play in 2 games. Being taken to 3 extra periods by 2 mediocre teams doesn't scream #1... if they didn't have Kentucky on their jersey they'd be 0-2.

And if it actually works out, he'll be gone for a better job the moment his team gets bounced from a Sweet 16

Avery Johnson is the best hire this year and likely best since Calipari signed with UK.
