Oregon vs bama will be a fun watch. They have a strong argument too.

Bama obviously got the nod because they won the conference and play in the west.

I see why you're saying. And agree to an extent. If I were on the committee, it'd be a tough decision. But my point is that this was left up to a committee, and no one would have been shocked if they had bama at #2.

FSU has won every game for 2 seasons and have a Hesiman winning QB. And won it all last year. That's also a fair argument when you leave it up to a committee of emotional human beings making the decision.

FSU had an easier schedule.

They played a similar opponent -- and nearly lost. (Florida)

They nearly lost a bunch of different games to substandard talent.

They haven't looked convincing all year.

Against GTech who has a similar record as Mizzou the disparity was gigantic regarding Bama score and FSU score.

I can see literally no argument as to why FSU should be number 1.

They are undefeated. The only undefeated team in the playoff. They are reigning champs. Their QB won the Hesiman.

Did I mention they haven't lost a game?

"Nearly" "haven't looked convincing"

But they keep winning. Somehow, they keep winning.

The SEC West was overrated by the end of the year, though.

Mississippi State - second best team but not good enough to win anything
Ole Miss - lost their best player, couldn't score after that
Auburn - monumental defensive collapse down the stretch
LSU - Not a very good football team this year

It's really easy when your schedule is laughable. When your conference opponents are 59 - 50 vs. 70 - 38 it's really easy to see how they haven't been beaten.

They're essentially Boise State -- who were also undefeated might I add.

Did I mention they didn't lose games at all for a few seasons?

That's BCS bullshite -- saying that because you don't lose that you must automatically be number 1 for that sole fact.

FSU didn't win impressively, and even needed some serious help late in the game from refs to beat teams that were essentially struggling to go to a bowl.

Alabama has been goddamn electric in their last few games and absolutely crushed ranked teams.

FSU once again, almost dropped a game to a one-dimensional Tech team. Tech put 465 yards on them and only passed it 14 times, man.

Meanwhile -- Alabama put up more yards and held their opponent to less yards.

They scored more points and held their opponent to a larger disparity.

Literally no argument for FSU.

Well we can agree to disagree here. Ok not saying you're wrong, but I am saying there is an argument for FSU and that the committee could have justified a #1 ranking for them.

Aside from "they're unbeaten in a weak conference", what argument?

ESPN seems to have really brainwashed you with style points. To compare FSU to Bosie State is laughable.

FSU got unlucky making it to final four.

Will be exposed.

Oregon is going to absolutely blister them. There is no way FSU can stop them if they couldn't stop Georgia Tech.

I think if you're good enough to be considered a top 4 team, and you're the only one undefeated, and you're defending your NC, then you have an argument for being #1. It's as simple as that. If the committee doesn't think the ACC is a good conference, then why even consider them one of the power 5 conferences? Treat them the same way as they do the American or Big East.

eta: to be clear, this is not in line with my only way of thinking. I'm just saying there is a number of arguments to be made from a number of sides.

I agree with a poster last page who said Oregon had a strong argument for #1. I could see that argument. Waxed the same team they they have their only loss to, and have some strong wins on their resume.

Georgia Tech runs a very idiosyncratic system for this day and age in CFB. Oregon's system is increasingly common.

Florida State has more talent than any team in the country, and that includes Alabama. Florida State can absolute beat any team they are matched up against, including Oregon.

That doesn't mean they will. Florida State has played like a basket case all year long. Their performances have ween unimpressive, even in victory.

But don't let the lackluster starts fool you. FSU is the most talented team in the country, easily.

I think Oregon will likely win, but Oregon and GT don't run the same offense.

Thanks. I think by the "resume" approach, the obvious choice is Oregon. By the "boxing" approach (i.e., champ is the champ until knocked out), it is Florida State.

In neither case is the answer Alabama. It is kinda weird they ended up there. I can only suppose that happened because of deference to Alabama and the SEC.
