Don't get butthurt about it, bro. Nobody is saying this defense is GOAT. Just that chavis has this type of offense's number. See Oregon, West Virginia, A&M (3 times), TCU, etc. He knows how to stop a mobile QB is all were saying.

Sure, you can argue that manziel didn't play his best game, but you really don't see his 2 worst performances being against LSU anything more than coincidence? Of course you don't...

LSU had some notable defensive play from a couple positions.

DJ Welter has gotten ragged on all year, but I finally saw a game where his play fit in very well. He had a solid game against Manziel.

Robinson, LSU's true freshman CB, reminded everyone that LSU still is DBU. He took the physical Evans right out of the game. Something when you see a player like Evans almost disappear for four quarters.

Manziel may give Bama fits, but not LSU.

Johnny went up against a defensive coordinator that had a scheme and enough talent to shut him down.

I think this is what you really meant to say.

Edit: It will be very interesting to see how well Johnny does in the NFL.

Welter has had a horrible habit of squaring up and waiting for the ball carrier to run to them rather than persuit the ball. You see it a ton where he had an opportunity to meet them at the line but instead let them come 5 yards to him as he plants an waits. That type of "contain" worked in his favor for manziel.

It is about matchups and Evans is tough for us to deal with..later in the year LSU'S WR's are as good as anyone's and in the second half they were not a factor vs Bama.

Bama is built to stop the run (God help Nick Marshall they cant throw it like Aggy)and matches up much better with an O Like LSU

Yeah but Odell and Landry are short.

Think he had 6 tackles and then he had some blitzes that moved Manzeil up in the pocket and forced some throws.

I can't argue about his problems, but I did enjoy seeing him have a good game. He deserves to be recognized.

When Manziel did scramble upfield, our LBs were there to limit yards.

Belue was injured and Fulton couldn't cover anything when he was in. Cyrus Jones was only in his second game at corner. The other freshmen weren't ready.

LSU is also quicker up front.

For the most part, LSU shut down JFF's option as a weapon and forced him to either hand off or throw.

It was pretty much the same strategy from last year.

The weather certainly helped neutralize things as well.

No doubt he had his best game to date. Happy for him. Just putting some science behind it.

He also ran down JF on one play for a rushed incompletion. Was really surprised by that play and very happy for him.

JFF had a bad game, can't a man have a bad game without that particular opponent being the GOAT defense?

He had a bad game because aTm has no running game other than his ability to scramble. When his receivers are covered, as they were the vast majority of the time last night, he's gotta go. When LSU's dline and LBs stay home and don't overrun, he's toast.

Thanks to Chavis' defensive plan (very deliberate, not ad libbed), the game was basically over in the 1st quarter.

yes.

that and aggy fell for it 2 years in a row. they simply did not attack it properly. this year, LSU is vunerable up the middle and to short passes to the RB's and TE's and this had to clearly show up on film yet A&M did not take advantage much this year or last. when they did they were successful and then got away from it.

LSU plays more "street ball" defense

Actually quite the opposite, it's about dicipline. LSU's DL contained JFF, didn't over pursue him, but let JFF come to them. Safeties were diciplined and didn't leave coverage to fly up and support the run. LBs were diciplined and stayed in their lanes. Corners were diciplined and stayed with their WRs throughout the play.

Bama played them too early in the season. I believe if they played them yesterday it would have been the same result as yesterdays game. Bamas offense sure had gotten better as the season has progressed.

There are a lot of good pieces to the puzzle here, and I'm surprised it took so long for someone to be specific like you.

It was just a helluva coaching job by coach Chavis. The d-line was coached to stay in their lanes and not be over aggressive. They kept pushing Jonny to his left and the DBs were coached to be physical with Evans to get in his head and throw the timing off. A&M might have had an "off" night but the LSU defense had a whole lot to do with that. They took away everything that made their offense click and kept possession of the ball to keep Manziel from ever getting into a groove.

Exactly. Evans is used to pushing around corners and he got a little taste of his own medicine yesterday. He just isn't used to someone pushing back. Can't wait to see what Robinson becomes in his time here. He's gonna be a great one if he keeps progressing like he has so far.
