well, in 2012, LSU had at least 3 OL go down with injuries. It was the most make-shift OL i can think of. Mettenberger was pretty mediocre that year as well and the offense as a whole was not very good outside a mid-season surge by Jeremy Hill, yet LSU still managed to go 10-2. I'm just saying, LSU has relied heavily on their defense to win games plenty of years with modest offensive production and still managed 10 win seasons

Georgia and Auburn will be the most likely.

Georgia has a new QB and injury prone RBs

Auburn has Malzahn. The key with Malzahn is the Arkansas game. In every season that a Malzahn coached team has beaten Arkansas, they've won a minimum of 12 games. When Malzahn coached teams lose to Arkansas (typically after starting undefeated or with 1 loss for a minimum of 6 games) those teams tank and go .500 or worse the rest of the way.

A season opening loss to Arkansas could jeopardize the entire season for Auburn.

We're average at worst but don't let your bias show too much

TBH, Georgia was a 6 win team last year but got lucky against Tenn and GT. This year will be more of the same, probably worse

TBH, we could have won 12 games just as well as 6 games last year.

Yup, straight up with walkons playing a ton of snaps due to injuries. Oh, and two defensive starters thrown out for bs penalties that would not have been called any other year and one of the penalties gave them a 1st down on their game winning drive.

I hear what you're saying, I just think LSU is in a much different position than they were in 2012, along with the rest of the West.

Oh, definitely LSU. The cupboard is bare; we have nothing. I just hope we can remain competitive.

Georgia could have a special year...or we could lose 6. Weak depleted secondary, less than stellar OL and relatively inexperienced QB are all causes for concern.

Maturing OL, deep at RB position, and newer defensive scheme/coach could spell special year.

If I HAD to choose which of those teams would struggle I would pick Georgia. I THINK it will be a good year, though.

ETA: We DO have a LOT more depth in the secondary, so i don't believe the losses there will be as damaging as many think.

2012:
- new QB
- all the receivers were sophomores
- tyrann mathieu kicked off the team in august
- lost best defensive lineman and best corner in the draft
- most of the OL was hurt at some point in the season

LSU won 10 games in 2012 by having the #3 defense and #10 offense in the conference. It was actually quite amazing they won 10 and could have easily won 12

How do you know what our offense is going to rely on? I have been an LSU fan for 40 years and even I can't tell you with certainty that we will rely heavily on our running game.

It would make sense. you lost your 1st string QB. Top 2 RB's, top 2-3 WR's. You picked up Fournette, and still have two good RB's. Makes sense you would try to ease your QB into the season by running more. LSU in the past has relied on their punishing run game, and Miles seems to favor the running game.

quote:

Cam Cameron has me scratching my head at this point. Yeah, he likes to pound the ball but he is known for his success with QBs. And last year we were just about even with passing and rushing.

But think about it...that was with Mettenberger at QB, and two of the best WR's in the country. Granted you had Hill, but I would have thought you would be more pass heavy.

quote:

This is a different era at LSU. Hiring CC is going to change people's mind about the LSU offense being one dimensional.

You very well could be right. But right now you have to go by past tendencies, don't you? I think you will run early and mix in more passes as your QB feels more confident.

At this point, I just don't think your basis is anything more than just an opinion.

While I am not the one you are talking to, or made the prediction...I share his opinion as, I would guess, most people on the board. Doesn't mean we are right and you are wrong, though. Shoot, you know your talent and coach better than us.

I have to admit....I am surprised about the DL. I thought it would be solid.

How many wins did you think LSU was good for?
I mean, if Georgia was a 6 win team last season what does that say about LSU? Georgia beat LSU with Gurley leaving the game early in the second quarter.

LSU is going to have a garbage offense, so probably them. They'll look similar to 2008 Auburn, with a good defense but an offense that can't do shite and loses them games

of those 5, I think Georgia has the best shot at being awful. I'm really not sold on any of those teams being great, though. Who did Auburn lose from last year's team? Auburn was my sleeper pick last year (I had them at 9 wins).

Around 9 last year, which is about what i see them getting this year. Question marks on the DL, WR, and at the QB position. Running back depth is thin as well

Neither team lived up to their potential.

The correct answer is LSU.

And that's cool but LSU fans are definitely not worried about most of the things that everybody else is. We know what our weaknesses will be better than anybody and I can tell you we are going to sneak up on the teams that think the way a lot of people on here do

Not a single person on here believed Mett would have the success he had last year and he did.Cam Cameron is changing shite around and it is going to leave some teams scratching their heads after LSU starts doing what nobody expects on a consistent basis

Don't see this as even remotely true. Magee and Hilliard have more starts than Bama RBs

No one should forecast doom for LSU. They've been the most consistent program of the 21st century: 0 losing seasons.

The 2012 schedule seems tougher than this year's too. At this point, we have no reason to expect Alabama, Texas A&M, or Florida to be as good as 2012 form. LSU doesn't have to be as good as they were 2 seasons ago to win 10 games.

Absolutely. Nobody knows a team better than their own fans. I know little or nothing about their WR's or their QBs. Shoot....I thought your DL would be good, and you guys are saying no, so that speaks for itself.

Weeeeeell......I saw a LOT of LSU fans saying he was going to be GREATLY improved. Some even were claiming he would be considered for the Heisman. mainly because of another year in the system, and you guys hiring Cameron. I, for one, argued vehemently that Cameron would not improve Mett as much as most of you guys claimed. (Looking back, I would say I was too hard on Cameron) But, a LOT of your fans on here were predicting VERY high expectations for Mett.
