Bear came in when Bama was terrible and had no talent.

Bear will always be the fricking King. Nick Saban doesn't
come to Alabama without the tradition that Bear laid down. I know he went to LSU but I mean post LSU he doesnt go to Bama without all that tradition that the Bear brought.

6 NCs and 14 SECCs say otherwise.

More so Wade than Thomas. Bryant wanted to play football for Alabama before he really even knew what football was. He listened to the 1926 Rose Bowl on the radio and immediately fell in love with Wallace Wade and his Crimson Tide.

Better question: What would Bama fans do if Saban started wearing a houndstooth hat?

Bryant went to Bama because "mama called," Saban went because he wanted out of the NFL. Bama fans will always thank Nick, but Bryant's shadow will never leave Tuscaloosa.

Gene was good. If he had stayed a few more years I think he would have won another title.

I don't like the must win six national title argument. The two eras are not even remotely the same. I think what Saban is doing is much more difficult as there are several teams in the west division alone in the top ten: then if you manage the regular season you usually face a top ten east team and then face either the first or second best team in the nation for the title. Bear didn't have to overcome those odds. Sorry Saban is already more impressive to me and it's not really close.

OK , I am going to prove why your BCS point is actually the reverse of the point you are trying to make.

If Saban and Bama were the only perfect team nowdays he would get a shot at the title but in 1966 he wouldn't have.

In 2011 and 2012 Saban got a shot at 2 national titles , go back 50 years and LSU wouldn't have played Bama again , especially if they felt Bama was the better team , and an undefeated Notre Dame wouldn't have went to a bowl , thus those 2 national titles wouldn't be his.

As for 2009 who knows , Texas would have played in the Cotton bowl and probably would have dodged Bama 50 years ago and the media might have given the title to Texas.

So , my point is it's actually easier to get to the title game in the BCS era where polls and computers match the top 2 teams and you can control your own fate , rather than the politics and tie ins to bowls deciding your fate.

No. But it's sort of a Babe Ruth thing, names that are eternally fresh no matter the generation.

Saban looks like Chuck Barris from the Gong Show waiting on Mean Gene, the Dancing Machine.

Bear Bryant will never be replaced in the hearts of most Of Bama Fans. Reason being he was like having a second Daddy to his players, and Like a Wise Paw Paw to the rest of us.

Saban is seen as a Disciplanarian, A teacher, and Smart. If he wins two more Nattys, he would simply match Coach Bryant' s record at 6. He can do it...but he won' t replace Bear in the hearts of the older fans, who remember him for his country nature. A great Man..

One other thing....back in the Sixties, and seventies, most of the national media was biased against the SEC Schools. They would rather give Notre Dame with a 10-0-1 record the NC then an 11-0 Bama team the AP title....(1966).

So did Oklahoma in 1950 , to Kentucky and the Bear , that was the rules then and the bowls were considered exhibitions.

Still , the facts persist , it was more difficult in the pre BCS era because if you finished 2nd you had no shot , in the BCS era you can finish top 2 and you will get a shot.

And believe me , from 1936 to like the late 70s you had an anti south bias in the media, anytime 2 teams were close the northern team won the title , go look for yourself.
