Oh look...

Reading is fundamental. Did you see the part where the NCAA rolled their eyes too.

So? Boosters owned Coach Bryant's house - this is nothing new at Bama. We take care of our elite coaches.

Just saw it on ESPN.com and felt like sharing.

Not insuiating anything, merely posting something I found interesting.

Again, Alabama's own Al.com found it fascinating enough to make it their second headline today.

The perks of winning. Rich boosters are appreciative. I don't see anything wrong with it.

I don't either, and to be honest I'd think LSU, UGA, SoCarl should ALL be doing the exact same thing for their coaches.

Saban/Miles/Richt/Spurrier are tenured coaches that have proven themselves in this conference.

I dunno. This kind of bugs me. I know it's boosters and it's their money to spend like they want. But it seems to me you could do better things, like endowing scholarships or chairs at Alabama. Not giving a guy who already makes $7 million a year a really nice perk.

And yes, I will be very pissed if TAF is doing the same thing with Les Miles. A stupid-arse waste of a lot of money is a stupid-arse waste of a lot of money.

Les Miles probably gets free cars and home as well. This is pretty common and truly a non-story.

Why can't you do both?

According to a report from Al.com, the Crimson Tide Foundation paid off Saban's $3.1 million home in January 2013 even though the organization was under no obligation to do so.

If they lose to LSU they're gonna un-pay it.

Al.com has probably had a story about someone's toast having the face of Bear Bryant on it as a secondary headline at some point.

Using what Al.com deems newsworthy as a guideline is not something I would admit to.

It really isn't a waste of money. I'm sure they treat it like an investment. One day when Saban no longer resides there they will sell the house for hopefully more than they purchased it for. It's not like the paid it off for him and said it is now yours free and clear.

For the record, the Saban's DID NOT have a mortgage. The Crimson Tide Foundation didn't pay his house off....they PURCHASED it from him for a little over $3mil and he transferred the deed to them. So Saban actually does not own that house at all anymore....the Crimson Tide Foundation does. The article is poorly worded.

Nothing wrong with that, either. NCAA doesn't say anything about "special benefits" to coaches. Universities can structure their compensation packages in many ways beside just a straight salary.
