This was part of his package to keep him from going to Texas... Not really a big deal... Also will get Alabama state retirement if he stays at Bama 10 years.

He will have to pay taxes on the income, again not a big deal.

REC controls the CTF.. everyone knows that. CTF is just the public face that looks nice and clean, REC is doing all the work behind the curtain. Get up to date on your Alabama conspiracies.

Apparently it's a pretty big deal because it's the 2nd headline on Al.com and was picked up by ESPN.

Don't shoot the messenger here.

I think the feeling is....there is nothing illegal about it, so no big deal.

The perks of winning. Rich boosters are appreciative. I don't see anything wrong with it.

frickin A. I thought I was on to something, I should've figured that the REC had it all under control.

Alabama did it for Bryant and Auburn did it for Dye so it's really nothing new. What's new is the monies. Dye and Bryant didn't live in 3 mil pads. Also, Saban has the option to stay there rent free after retirement as did Dye and Bryant, if he chooses.

Within NCAA rules. So, that'd be why it's a non-story.

I think it just shows how p-whipped the Alabama fan-base has become. Like an average guy getting desparate to keep his hot girlfriend.

He runs you down and essentially blames you for the teams poor performance at Arkansas. He chides you for leaving games early in blow-outs. Your response is to say "I'm sorry, we'll do better!. WHile we are paying your 7 million dollar salary, can we also buy your multi-million dollar mansion as well? Will that make you happy?? Love us! Looooooooove us!!!!!

I really dont care, but does Saban still have title to the house? Does this foundation have a Lien against the property? Or is this just a gift to Saban and his family?

Lots of rich people don't pay their houses off, and actually CTF bought the house.
I choose to be totally debt free (not that I am Nick Saban rich). I have been told paying real estate off is not a good financial decision.

Nothing unusual...churches usually buy homes for the Reverend.

No the foundation owns the house. This is an investment for them.

As son of a pastor I can tell you this is definitely not the norm.

It is not at all uncommon in Alabama and Tennessee. I can't tell you how many churches I've seen...especially smaller rural churches...that have a preacher' s house sitting next to it.

I don't know where you're from or in what denomination your father ministered but it is absolutely the norm for Southern Baptist churches in Alabama. They either provide a parsonage (sometimes called a pastorium) or provide a housing allotment which is not considered part of the pastor's salary.

The practice did start diminishing in the last 20 years or so, but is making a little comeback with the housing market crash.

Wonder if he does spend any of his own money on anything at all....more power to him, but our priorities are truly effed up beyond repair.
