Well again, you are discrediting the original premise of the stat, 5 star recruits that sign with the program. When you remove them, you again are skewing the stat. Its pretty simple, did 5 star recruit sign with program? yes or no Did 5 star recruit get drafted first round? yes or no Any variation beyond that it merely skewing the statistic to make the stat look more convincing then it really is ETA. And I dont even really care what it is for bama. but when you add more and more disclaimers it discredits the statement.

Ask yourself the question, "what was the intention when looking at these statistics?" Answer: To see how well the schools "coach up" their 5* recruits to help them most advantageously enter the NFL draft.
Now if you don't remove the recruits who were dismissed for unacceptable behavior, career-ending injury or any other situation not contributable to the coaching staff, how can you get an accurate assessment of the quality of the coaching staff?
NYC, you're not this dumb...this narrow-minded and hard headed, maybe, but not this dumb.

What is:
1. % of 5 stars signed by Saban that get drafted in the first round
2. % of 5 stars signed by Saban that make it to the draft and get drafted in the first round.
It does not make one right and the other wrong, it is just a statistic. Both are probably good numbers in Saban's favor, the second should be the better of the two.

While I don't relish the idea of ever agreeing with NYCaub, I think the truth is in between and imo even slightly toward his point of view. I can see the argument that players who drop out of the program are "beyond our control" and shouldn't count against the stat. But the real message of the stat is that 5 star recruits (and their families) believe that at Alabama, the player is much more likely to make it to the first round of the draft. If a player drops out, it may be totally because the player is a lost cause, BUT it could also be because the support system in place was not effective with him. And in the latter case, that is relevant.
I see this similarly to a quarterback's INT stats. Some interceptions are completely beyond the control of the qb - tipped balls, screwed up timing routes, etc by the wide receiver. But we have to simply accept the limitations of the statistic and give the overall numbers, else we skew it even worse deciding which to include and introducing our own biases.

Saban's got the Bama program running like it's buisness. He basically interviews recruits, he doesn't have to do much selling these days. The numbers speak for themselves.
