That's surprising. I thought all high school football teams had a weight training program.

I'm sure they do...but 3 sport athletes are always practicing mostly...its not uncommon...

He basically came out of nowhere as far as what were the perceived top players in the state according to scouting services

While the basketball team is lifting, he is playing football. While the Football team is lifting he is playing basketball followed by baseball.

Surely this isn't that hard for some to figure out...

Probably so. But with the right program, coach, and nutrition, I'm sure he'll get bigger quickly.

I've never seen a 6'6 shortstop, dude must be very athletic.. Usually they stick the bigger guys on 1st or 3rd in high school ball because they can't move as well. Petrino found him a gem for a Tight End.

Yeah I played three sports in high school and ended up doing very little weight training because I was never in "offseason". We didn't have mandatory summer workouts either so I never did much lifting in the summer either.

Hell, even the baseball team at my high school lifted. If he wanted to lift, I'm sure he could have found the time. Is he working two jobs as well?

When I was in high school, they had a period solely dedicated to lifting weights (usually in the morning). Not so sure about his high school..

Yep, that's what the football players did for PE.

I don't know of any school in Arkansas that has that setup. Could be why were behind other SEC states our size in D1 quality athletes though.

Only one period is used for athletics at all the highschools in Arkansas that I'm aware of.

Sure he could show up before school and lift, if he had a way there, or stay late on day where he didn't have a game that night assuming he had a ride home or doesn't have a part time job as well.

We did have that until the state up the credit requirements for graduated with a plan for college. Once that was implemented all 7 periods were taken up by classes.

Whitehall is a burb of Pine Bluff...it is a mid-level classification but mostly all there athletes play every sport (at least skill guys)

The only time I ever lifted in high school was between football ending and baseball/track starting...

I played 3 sports and hardly ever did any serious lifting...plus lifting weights was a distraction from getting pussy...

We weren't allowed to take PE if we were in athletics. Me and my friends would still always try to schedule it every year.

Let's be frank, HS's in many parts of Arkansas just don't have near the facilities of other SEC states. It's a money thing, which ultimately trickles down into the football culture of the state as a whole. Just is what it is.

Contrast this with where I grew up. Population 4800 in Texas. Tiny town. Football nuts. Here is our new 6.0M weight room

Arkansas football is a tough uphill climb guys.

My High School had a shitty weight room and locker room for football, trust me. We didn't even have a locker room for baseball or anything else. In fact, our weight training/lifting equipment was donated to us from Troy University

shite that is nice compared to what we had. We had 3 bench presses, 2 squat racks, 2 dead lift set ups and a couple of power clean set ups and that was pretty much it. You could be in the weight room for an entire hour with the whole football team and only get through 2 stations.

That sucks. We have about 10 sets now. Thank God for Troy upgrading. It's not like we need them though, all of our athletes are gone. We got a bunch of white guys running 4.9s at WR (and yes, I am also white) Our O and D linemen are all around 200 pounds and our running back is about 140

Yeah it was rough. That was the main reason I never worked out much when i did have free time. The weight room was always packed with the full time football guys.

That's pretty cool though still that Troy hooked you up with equipment.
