BS.

So, Coach Johnson walked into a situation his frst two years with the same talent level as Grant?

Are you fricking we-ta-did? Grant had Hillman, Releford, Mitchell, Steele Green.....

Come on

Well, he was left with Grant's trash, so what he did year 1 was borderline miraculous.

But, to the larger point, he has passed the tests so far. But now the test is winning, and it's time to do that or all the other stuff is for naught.

He's got the kids now to make a run. What he does with the talent will be the deciding factor, and looking at his NBA record, I like his chances.

You're using the 2018 recruiting rankings in August of 2017?

Mark Fox is the best SEC basketball hire of all time. Georgia really has the best AD, don't we folks?

Using commitments for ranking recruiting is a bit suspect. However, Howland is building a tremendous program at State. Because, his first team was Senior laden, last year was effectively his first year for all practical purposes. So he is a year behind Avery Johnson, who I agree has done and will continue to do a great job at Bama. (The question being, will anybody there even care?).

At State, look for measured improvement this year and then 2018-19 and beyond , we will be a force again in the SEC.

....and to the poster that said our collective basketball coaches are better than our FB coaches right now, I would agree.

On the Football, what coach is going to challenge Saban for supremacy? His dominance will wane at some point or if it continues, he will probably retire in the next 3-5 years.

Well 2,500 people just showed up for an impromptu basketball practice in August, so, yea I think people seem to care.

Not that I'm saying you're saying this, but I've always loved the assumption that if a program is bad, the fans don't care. I believe in Avery's first year, we averaged over 13k- a 3k increase from the year prior. Last year was good also.

I really don't know what we have to do to disprove this "Bama doesn't care about bball" myth. We are consistently near the top of the SEC in basketball attendance, even in shite years. We love our basketball. That doesn't mean ALL of our old, crotchety football fans do, but our basketball fanbase is well above the SEC average and just salivating to get back to being a good team.

Anytime Alabama has shown any promise or excitement in basketball the gym has been packed. That goes back to the 60s and 70s.

I don't really follow Alabama basketball closely so I will take your word for it but looking at their records Grant went 18-14 and lost in the NIT in the second round in his last year. Johnson went 18-15 and lost in the NIT in the first round in his first year. On paper that doesn't really seem miraculous.

MS ST, Auburn, LSU and Mizzou all with a 5-star commitment for next year. The SEC is going to get deep with basketball talent and pretty fast.

I know on our end the class for 2018 is expected to be absolutely huge with the potential for guys like Naz Reid, Josh Leblanc, Emmitt Williams and Darius Days. All Top 100 overall players.

Exactly. I wish I could have been born to attend the days of the Plaid Palace. Said there was nothing like it. The energy and passion from the crowd fueled Alabama's defenses under Wimp.

We need a new arena badly.

Except when you take into account that our lone ball hander and reliable scorer was Retin Obasahan.

Also take into account that under Johnson's first year, we beat 4 teams ranked in the top 25. This includes Notre Dame who made the elite 8.

Avery's done good things here so far. However, he does have to get over the hump and get us to the tournament. I'll be pissed if we don't get there this year.

That's great that he had those wins but I am guessing that means he lost some head scratchers if he ended up with that record.

Yes- after beating Florida and LSU on the road, he dropped home games to Mississippi State and Arkansas. We were a lock for the tournament before that.

Like I said, Avery has to show he can get over that hump. No excuses this time around for dropping homes games we shouldn't.
