they are not as highly regarded and are much more likely to be relegated to home health, urgent care, etc.

You're not going to find very many DO's in the Mayo Clinic or researching cancer treatments
The reasoning behind this, is DO's are ow becoming prominent

I'm sorry bud. You will never be the same as an MD.
And DO has been around forever, it's only growing because of the spillover from too many people going to college these days.

No, it's not. DO's are hardly ever found outside of primary care establishments. You can argue why that is, but it's a fact. It's almost part of their mission statement.

I know of quite a few in hospitals. It's basically the equivalent of Internal Med. I see some in gastro and cardiology but for the most part they don't get into the specialties.

I am uncertain, so asking what are the major fields that are offered at the university?
Auburn is known for:
Engineering
Veterinary
Pharmacy
Nursing
Architecture
Interior Design
Agriculture
Forestry
PEMBA
Economics
*Just google each one of these. Plenty of accolades to go around.
People like to compare Alabama and Auburn, but really, the two universities take care of each half of the state's needs. Where Auburn has engineering, Alabama has law. Where Auburn has agriculture, Alabama has business. They complement each other quite well, but most potential students only look at each school as football programs.

I know a Urologist that is a DO.

I want to see how this helps you. You sit down for the interview.
"I'm a hard worker, prompt and organized. Here are my references and work history. I have a BS in Business Management from Auburn University."
"Thanks. We'll let you know."
Then just as you're about to close the door... "Oh and there's just one more thing. This publication lists Auburn as a marginally better school than Alabama."
"frick me, why didn't you say so? You're hired!"
This is sort of how my current jobs interview went actually. Granted the VP I was interviewing with was an Auburn grad.

Yep. And, both also generally have solid counter-programs to the other's strength. Alabama's engineering program is very solid. Auburn's accounting program is well respected.
