Everyone thinks that the story line is one of the following:
TAMU new DC
LSU new DC, will the offense improve
Alabama QB questions
Not nearly enough people have brought up the question marks at Auburn and I think it is about time. I alluded to this in another thread, but thought I would bring it here instead.
Boom will improve the defense, I am sure. He is a good coach. The problem is your offense.
2014 - 35.5 points per game
2013 - 39.5 points per game
The issue is that in 2013 you had 19 turnovers (0 T/O margin) but in 2014 you had 27 turnovers (+7 margin). Take away that 8 turnover swing and your scoring offense drops to about 30 points per game which would knock your offense out of the top 50 in the nation. You have a new QB who, while talented, isn't a sure thing to make up nearly 100 points for the season from your miracle year to this year, especially with your losses in skill positions and 2 OL starters.
Defense improved, but not enough to make up for an offense that is on the decline. Auburn finishes 6th or 7th in the west.
Louisville - W
Jacksonville State - W
LSU - L
MSU - W
San Jose State - W
Kentucky - W

Ole Miss - L

I could be wrong, I have been before, but I don't see it. I think Auburn will be tough and finish somewhere in the top 4 in the west.

Whew. Glad you posted this. I had my hopes up. Now I can go into the season with low expectations.
Really, thanks!

AU has a more favorable schedule this season than last.
We have talent on the defensive side of the ball including, but not limited to, Carl Lawson returning from injury, Montravius Adams, and transfers Countess and Matthews.
And you can look at 2013's offense versus 2014's offense. We caught a lot of teams by surprise with Marshall running the option. This year's offense is going to look much different than the past two years. Teams won't have as much film on AU.

Can't we just agree that if the cards fall right that any one of the 7 teams in the west can win it?
Ole Miss: Good QB play and they are there.
Miss St: Good defense and they could be there
Bama: Good QB play, they have everything else.
Auburn: IMHO the least amount of questions but still some to answer.
aTm: Able to run the ball & control clock, defense improve, they are right there.
Arky: Replace key defensive players and they are right there.
LSU: Better QB play and we are there.
I said it a while back, there will be some really good teams in the West that will finish with 6-8 wins.

quote:I think the prognosticators are starting to think the same. Not too many are picking AU to make the playoff.

On the flip I'd be really surprised if the SEC Champ didn't have 2 losses this year. Will that be enough to get into the playoff over a 1 loss team from another Power 5?

Two of those turnovers were fluke fumbles against Aggie without being touched. We kick the Aggies arse by 30 points last year without about 4 fluke plays, including those two fumbles. I can't wait for the Aggie game this year because I don't see a bunch of fluke plays bailing you out two years in a row

I guess you missed the 300 "why is AU getting so much preseason love" threads.

Wow, you completely missed the point of the turnover info I posted.
I like Auburn. I really do. I just honestly think you have some big question marks on the offensive side of the ball is all.
