1) JJ sucks, White played decent but got injured.
2) One dimensional team can not score against average defenses in the SEC.
3) Lost 4 SEC games by 8 or less, one in OT.

This post is gayer than Richard Simmons with a penis in his mouth. I'm glad you had such a great day watching your team lose to their biggest rival. I hope you're excited about getting to relive the experience in a couple of weeks.

You're seeing a much more competitive Auburn team the past few weeks thanks to good work from Muschamp. Some posters here can laugh off Muschamp, but the defense has improved week by week, and Auburn has now given up only two touchdowns in the past two games.

Muschamp, Lawson's return, Sean White's steady play, and the emergence of Barber and Jovon as a good running back duo.

Those are the pieces that really kept the season from falling apart in the way we were worried about initially. Not that it's a recovery, but it's not 2012.

Honestly I don't think it's that hard of a question to answer. Highly regarded QB flopped. Coaches were reluctant to play another QB, and when they did, they limited him significantly. Our best WR is dismissed. Our best defensive player gets injured. Then the decent QB gets banged up about the time he's really starting to get his feet under him. The coaches try and use JJ intermittently with an injured SW, which does nothing to help JJ.

Sounds a lot like 6-6.

This is from threedog79 on another thread.

quote:

I'll give you the offensive scheme. 1st play misdirection dive up the middle for minimal to no gain; 2nd play swing pass/bubble screen for no gain; 3rd play (see second play); 4th play 38 yard punt. Should the O get a first down Gus will point to the ground yelling "go, go, go...hurry, hurry"...the play will be a dive up the middle. The second play will be a dive up the middle. And the third play will be a swing pass for no gain. Fourth play will be a punt for 37 yards. Rinse and repeat.

This could not be more accurate. Toss in an occasional fake end around/statue of liberty/whatever and you have Gus' offense all locked up.

Remember in Waterboy how the antagonist coach had the secret playbook he always kept on him? Gus has that except it's all easily fit on one side of a post-it note.

One bad loss....

Other losses were by 8, 8, 8(in OT) and 7.

Signs of a team with new starters at QB, RB, FB, C and WR. Can't finish. Defense has played well enough for us to win every game. Gave up 17 to Moo State, 24 in regulation to Arky, 27 to Ole Miss, 20 to Georgia

I really expect to compete for a championship in '16.

Auburns's defense is better this year than they have been since probably 2010. That defense could make big plays. Couldn't really 3 and out u, but sack and intercept u. They tackle better this year. They dint have near as many plays where they miss gaps and assignments. The problem is the OFFENSE. Sean White competes and seems to make good decisions. He just isn't very talented. He might be a really goid player in a few seasons just on experience alone. Jeremy Johnson has the worst mechanics of any QB I have seen all year long. He might as well be 5'11" with that terrible sidearm motion. He steps to his left and drops the ball down to his side even when he has a nice pocket. He rarely steps forward and delivers the ball over the top (or at least 3/4). I don't know if he has always been that way, but his mechanics are just flat out terrible. And it might help if he doesn't throw to the underneath LBs and nickel CBs and safeties every single throw over the middle. He is an absolute liability in the passing game. OL is ok. Pass pro is weak. U can blitz Auburn this year since the QB es capability doesn't scare the living day lights out of a DC. RBs are ok. 29 is the best one. WRs no one scares u after Duke getting the boot. Just a really bad offense overall.

I read something a couple of years ago on Gus's offense from a guy way smarter than me on football offenses. He said Gus basically runs 5 plays, but each play can be run from about 5 different formations. He broke down every game from one season, and in almost every game his base game plan had 15 or so formations, with 4-5 of the same plays out of each one, and one or two special plays just for that game.

Gus was just never that good. How many close wins did he have in 2013? It was just like Muschamp's 11-1 season in 2012 - unsustainable.

Team isn't finishing. Clear example of an inexperienced offense.

Good teams know how to win close games. Auburn put themselves in a position to win all of those close games too.

Exactly...which means losses by 8, 8, 8 and 7 means they're not good. Just average. Can't finish.

A byproduct of inexperience on offense

Hard to say at this point...

He has thrown 1 TD this season. Holds the ball too long and has no escapability...

We'll see what JF3 brings in the spring.
