Winning the NC didn't buy Chizik any more time, and Malzahn didn't even win it. Of course, it was easy to see Chizik wasn't going to regain control of his situation, but it was still a quick trigger. This year should be the swing year for Malzahn, IMO. If he can't win at least 10, Auburn doesn't need to keep him anymore. 12–2 8–5 7–6 8–5 3–9 7–6 8–5 7–6 With the exception of an extreme first year outlier for both coaches, Malzahn has an almost identical record to Bielema with better recruiting. We all know Auburn wouldn't stand to have Bielema, I don't know why they'd stand to keep Malzahn if he finishes with a similar record again.

Chizik got fired because his team completely gave up on him.

Malzhan has prevented his team from shutting down by running off anyone with malcontent tendencies, coaches included (Craig comes to mind).

Auburn is more worried about beating Georgia than they are Bama. They absolutely have to win that game to have a chance in the West.

Largely true. I'm not going to claim UGA is more important than Bama, although there are a lot of GA-centric posters (myself included) who put them almost equal.

But it's arguably more demoralizing to lose by razor thin margins against mediocre UGA teams than to lose (even by larger margins) to Alabama. I don't think anyone will be particularly forgiving of 1-4 against Alabama, but if we get to 10 wins and/or beat LSU and UGA, it'll give Gus enough breathing room provided Alabama isn't a big blowout.

Plus his record of competence as a HC was always there in the background giving people concern.

No reasonable person doubts that Gus is capable of being at least a serviceable HC and still has a strong offensive mind, but his decision making seems increasingly bizarre. Hopefully we'll see him cut out the weird shite this season.

Gus' future depends on UGA and overall record, and that's not a compliment to UGA.

We know bama is a good team and will be year in year out with saban there. UGA is garbage and we had no business losing to them last year. Gus may not survive losing to UGA and bama at home, but would survive beating uga while losing to bama.

What Bama has been able to accomplish, especially with how competitive modern football is, is unprecedented. I think it would be a dumb move to fire him over the IB record. Who could they replace him with, anyway?

Auburn has been embarrassed by Saban but has also had two of the best seasons in program history against him. I think continuity of the coaching staff is critical at this point.

Let me get this straight bowl. If you Auburn fans say you are going to beat Bama, it's just confidence and if you shite talk us it's because we are just rivals and all. However if we say we are not worried about losing to you, it's out of fear and if we shite talk you it's because we are assholes or trash? Give me a break dude, you are doing your credibility no favors slick.

Exactly - judging Gus or any other coach by their record against Bama right now is futile. No one is going to measure up. Staying competitive and winning the games he should win is how he should be judged.

Active coaches in this conference are 2-33 against Bama. That's crazy. yeah. you can't hold Gus' record against Bama against him unless he was just getting embarrassed on the scoreboard.

That said, there is a 75% chance that Auburn will beat Bama this. Bama fans are going to quote this and crack jokes, but they know it. They're worried, and they do a poor job of hiding it behind shitty attempts at humor.

say what? No, just no.

Gus being 0-1 against yaw yaw would be more embarrassing than 1-4 against saban.

I agree with this mostly except for the "if we". There is no If's in 2017, there is just do!

Alabama doesn't factor into this

can Malzahn get a QB that can run his team? If he can't get it with this transfer he's going to have trouble convincing people he can do it at all.

It's all a moot point because in 2017 Auburn will be

15-0 Ship!
