We're going to get one of Jake Bentley or Narcisse next class, if not both. On top of that, we're in great shape with Nate Craig, one of the best WRs and the best OL (2nd overall of all positions) is already committed.

Now, it doesn't take much to derive the point you keep churning out. It makes sense and it's true. But it hasn't deterred enough recruits to make a difference. Coates and Williams will both start at WR in the NFL. Kozan, Golston, and Young, have NFL starting potential on the OL. Braden Smith will be a high draft pick. Jovon Robinson is a prototypical NFL RB. There's a ton of talent on the roster. Just a tad bit early to determine their future success.

Solid post. Point taken. I think Duke Williams can be a pro-bowler.

What does Trent Richardson have to do with this thread? You think coaches are trying to convince recruits that Bama RBs aren't prepared for the league - with Eddie Lacy and Mark Ingram making pro-bowls and raking in cash?

Brodie Croyle
John Parker Wilson
Greg McElroy
AJ McCarron

4 consecutive QBs who were "developed" enough to at least get drafted and make it in the league for several seasons each - even as backups and whatnot.

Not many schools in the SEC can say that.

It's cute to sit back and say "It's not our job to prepare you for the NFL, it's our job to win games" blah blah blah... but what happens when the inability to prepare players to be successful in the NFL starts hurting recruiting? How do you combat that, when every major D1 college recruit has a goal of eventually making it to the NFL?

I usually don't agree with much you post but you hit the nail on the head here. The HUNH offense run by Auburn and many others is a glorified HS offense and is not a NFL prepatory plan for a recruit. It will win a lot of games for the team but the player will be ill prepared for anything further. Cam Newton is an exception just because he is a freak of an athlete.

Saban put some of that in last year because he had to plug a QB gap - he wont stay with it. Miles uses a small amount of it but stays with traditional offensive tempo mostly.

Auburn currently has 9 players CGM has either coached or was involved in recruiting in the NFL on offense. That doesn't count the 5 of 7 from last years squad that will likely make an NFL roster. Other than Bama that is on par with any other school in the nation. As stated previously in this thread that number is likely to increase significantly in the coming years based on who is on our roster now.

Right. If it weren't for Cam Newton - who would have likely been the #1 overall draft choice wherever he ended up - there would literally be nothing for Auburn to hang their hat on.

Dude, he turned a DB into SEC Champion.

That's kinda the point of this whole thread. He can win lots of ballgames, but he's not getting people ready to be productive in the NFL.

Of course that isn't true. We should probably give him credit for Darren Mcfadden and Felix Jones while were at it.

How many were free agents and how many are starting? No flame, genuinely curious.

If he gets credit for Cam Newton, then you're damn right.

5/4 and of those 5 this year 3. I always believed that was a sign of coaching…the free agents. Exposure gets kids drafted talent, coaching and work ethic keep them in the leave. The USC teams of the mid 2000's were famous for not getting kids past rookie contracts. They were draft on hype more than talent and skill that had been coached up.

Damien Williams should be thrown in while were at it, after all he was a HS coach as well.

Rolando McClain was 2nd on the team in tackles for the Cowboys this past season and was named a Pro Bowl alternate

Don't think that's what you were going for.

False. Signed a 1 year, $3,000,000 contract with the Cowbows in April.
