Unlike what some of you want to believe, football counts. Pretty important.

Wait, does football no longer count?

Yeah football counts. Unlike what you want to believe, so do the other big three sports.

It's Bama's one trick pony. Of course it counts.

Care to list them?

- Football (2011, 2012, 2015)
- Mens Golf (2013, 2014)
- Womens Gymnastics (2011, 2012)
- Womens Softball (2012)
- Womens Golf (2012)

I can imagine there are plenty of eye rollers such as golf, gymnastics, and women's tennis on the list, so let's not pretend like your athletic department is doing so fricking hot right now. It's all football that drives T-town.

If we aren't going to discuss anything but football and basketball, then why even say the word "athletic department"? And if it's only the "big sports, we've won 3 national titles in 1 of the 2 of them, so it seems to be going ok.

Not to mention Auburn softball will probably best your once sizzling softball team again.

Wait, softball does or doesn't count? I thought it was an eye roller. We're 28-3 and #2 in the RPI, not to mention we've won a national title in the last 5 years. Just need to figure out which sports count and which don't.

Somebody on here did a ranking of the SEC's Men's Big 3 sports over the last decade......

IMO, a decade is a good enough snippet of time to measure the health of an athletic program.

Guess which program was ranked at or near dead arse LAST?

It's the biggest thoroughbred in the fricking stable though.

Yes, except for the other 4 sports we've won national titles in over the last decade. Which kind of means we aren't a one trick pony.

And if we are only talking "Big 3" sports, then who else even has a one trick pony? Florida, Vanderbilt, Kentucky? LSU maybe?

The big three is football, basketball, and baseball. Please keep up.

Which SEC athletic programs have more than a Big One?

Which SEC athletic programs even have a Big One (Kentucky, Alabama, Vanderbilt/LSU/South Carolina baseball?)?

You realize it was only a year ago Auburn was pretty much in last place, or close to it, in "big 3" sports.

No one envies Auburn's athletic department.

Men's golf U. And Bama isn't the premier softball school in the state anymore. That pony has sailed.

No, we're not Mens Golf U, but we did win 2 national championships in it. And Womens Golf. And Gym. And Softball. And Football.

LOL. 28-3, #2 in the RPI. Sad state of affairs for sure.

This

Just last year, AU ranked dead arse last in the entire SEC in the Big 3 over the span of a decade.

They pick up their game in softball & baseball and have every right to crow about how the season has started thus far. But to compare their entire athletic program to other's in the SEC and then to selectively omit football is laughable.

Similarly, no one envies Bama's athletic program. Football has been a machine but other than that, the program has been average. Read my posts, I'm not trumpeting Auburn so telling me things I already know is a waste of time on your part. If anything, it was Florida's program that I was trumpeting as they have set the standard as far as program balance. Reading comprehension, gentlemen...

I don't think any sane person would argue against Florida being the gold standard of athletic departments.

Not one person has tried to diminish UF's accomplishments in athletics, we all can agree that they are the standard every other program should strive to reach.

Well. Why do I keep hearing about Auburn then. I said Auburn and Bama both were not near Florida's balanced athletic department. How the frick is that interpreted as AU> Bama?

For all intents and purposes, Auburn is greater than Bama btw. But I'll save that discussion for another day.
