Are you saying Steele is a better DC than Muschamp?
Don't know if I'd go there. Muschamp seemed to get the improvement going, especially if you look at Auburn's defense last season during the final 4-5 games. I think Muschamp should get a lot of the credit, but Steele is obviously continuing the improvement.

Except no.
Any bump you could claim from your schedule is smoothed over by playing Arkansas St and ULM.
Hasn't everyone played a cupcake or two this year?
Florida ranks #2 in the country in Total Defense.... well guess what? They've faced the #88 (UT), #102 (UK), #119 (NTX), #123 (VANDY), and #126 (UMASS) offenses in the country. Pretty sure most anyone would have fantastic defensive statistics had they faced those opponents.
Florida's opponents have averaged just 330.1 yards per game so far this year in all of their games.
Mississippi State's have averaged just 341.9/game
Alabama's have averaged 399.2/game
Tennessee's have averaged 415.2/game
Auburn's have averaged 421.7/game
LSU's have averaged 447.8/game* but that does not include any stats for Jax St since they are FCS
I'd say considering you have to factor Jax St. as pretty weak overall, Auburn's and LSU's defenses have faced fairly similar competition.
So of the SEC's top 6 defenses (based upon Total Defense rankings), Auburn's and LSU's have faced the toughest offenses so far this season.
I'd say LSU has the better defense right now, but Auburn has a really good defense as well. Both are in the top half of the league for sure.

Who is #1-3 in SEC in scoring defense?
#9 Alabama 13 ppg
#11 LSU 14.8 ppg
#12 Texas A&M 15.4 ppg
#15 Auburn 16.4 ppg
Now keep in mind that both LSU and A&M have got the advantage of play Auburn's retarded offense. Which skews the numbers in their favor.

And LSU's offense wasn't retarded under Miles?

Auburn is better than LSU in every facet that matters: Academics, school finances, location, crime rate, pollution, mid-career salary, etc.. They can win in football talent levels, no skin off my back.

That's the equivalent of Jacksonville State and Missouri.
Auburn has played 2 teams currently in the Top 10. LSU hasn't.

Right now? Good thing for Auburn they haven't played LSU in the last 11 days... oh wait.
I think someone might be putting a little too much stock into how his team looked against Mizzou.

Miles' offensive philosophy makes Texas Tech's defense look competitive.
Steele's defenses were not all that bad last year...at least early on and in the A & M game
